I-35 has been called "The Main Street of Texas" but has been inadequate
for some time due to the increased population of Texas increasing the number
of vehicles that use it.

The above website is a wealth of information on what's going on with the
widening/other improvements of the road.

One of the most ambitious efforts is widening I-35 to 6 lanes from Waco
to San Antonio.

Included in the above link is how to get involved with local committees which
are providing input to TexDOT for road improvements.
