Elderly man kills younger home intruder

Post by RPB »

hadn't seen this posted, so I am ... (The video says shot and killed intruder, but written story says stabbed ...) Either way ...indirectly related, due to castle doctrine

... one comment was "In that portion of the community breaking into someones house is probably a plea for death. Most have guns and most know how to use them. If ALL of America were that way criminals would be weary! "

Another comment was:
Thanks for working on this story.....those of us who live in this community have been waiting all weekend for "someone" at the Bastrop Sheriff's Department who we were told is on vacation (and, obviously, in need of a photo-op) to return on Tuesday and give us information.

CEDAR CREEK, Texas (KXAN) - An elderly man defending his home from an intruder stabbed and killed a 38-year-old man Friday after a struggle ensued.

Bastrop County sheriff's deputies are investigating the Friday night home invasion that left Jonathan W. Jones dead.

Deputies were called to the 300 block of Lake View Drive in Cedar Creek around 11:16 p.m. and found homeowner Marion Lee Hill, 75, with multiple facial injuries and Jones dead at the scene with a stab wound to his chest.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation indicates this was a home invasion and that Jones was inside the home prior to Hill's arrival. A struggle ensued, resulting in Jones' death.

"It scares me," said Roy Lyon, who lives down the street from the home where the incident happened. "I'm wondering - his isn't the wealthiest neighborhood in the world - I'm wondering what an intruder is doing down here."

Lyon said he and his neighbors were trying to find out more information. Located 3 miles south of Highway 71, the neighborhood is full of dirt roads and dead-end streets.

"We've got a dead end," said Lyon. "If someone was coming after you, you'd have a rough time getting out of here."

There is a 'No Trespassing' sign on the chain link fence outside the home where the shooting took place, but nothing appeared disturbed Monday afternoon.

In Texas, the Castle Doctrine protects property owners from being charged criminally if they shoot and kill someone on their property in self-defense.

Investigators continue to gather information on the case.
