"According to police, two men went inside an apartment, located in the 1200 block of North Tennessee Street, at approximately 8:45pm Thursday." The attempted to rob the occupants, fatally shot one, and fled. They are still at large.
That's not too far from where I used to live before we moved farther north within the good old' Lone Star State.
This sort of thing just gives me one more reason to be glad I'm not living in an apartment in a suburb anymore. Yikes.
Off topic: Now that we're in a house, we've set it up so that it's difficult to get inside to begin with, then making it to the hallway is even harder...and if they manage to get to the bedroom door, we've barred it so it would be near impossible to penetrate. If that fails (and it shouldn't) then of course we each have a .357 and my shotgun.
We could NEVER have pulled this off in an apartment, even if we ignored the fact that we'd lose our deposit for sure. Apartment layouts just don't allow for the same fortification you can put in place in a house.
If we were still living in McKinney right now, I'd be very uncomfortable. One deadbolt and a flimsy "privacy" doorknob aren't enough for me to feel protected.
I have two heavy duty deadbolts on each of my exterior doors...somebody would have to break a window or it is going to take them a bit longer to get through the door and that would be enough time for me to make them very unhappy when they come through the door.
I knew about this when it happened but didn't post anything becase I didnt have any details other than it was a home invasion.
I was actually at the McKinney ER right after FD brought him in and saw the mess they were cleaning up.
Meanwhile PHI(medical helicopter comapny) landed at the ER too.
My partner knows the pilot and went to talk to him and when he came back he said that there was a cop guarding the helicopter and the pilot to make sure they got off the ground ok with the patient....just in case the BGs came back to finish the guy off. Spooky!
This is the 2nd or 3rd home invasion I have intimate, first hand knowledge of in the McKinney area east of 75 in the last month or so.
Sure would be nice if my partner(also CHL) and I could arm ourselves while at work....just being a sitting duck in an ambulance or working on a victim and his attacker opens the back doors and threatens whatever he wants to do.
Because generally people don't know any different, all they see is a uniform. Even if we had nothing to do with it they might not know that just by the ambulance I'm in and come shooting at us for helping the guy they just blasted.
Or in Dallas getting jumped for our narcotics....it's a very real possibility.
