Searching for a new holster

Post by Mage218 »

Im trying to find a good holster for my smith and wesson 637 airweight. I was looking at galco's website and they dont have the 637 listed. Is there any other model that would would work for the 637, for instance the 442 or model 60?

637 and 442 and 642..All the same gun.

The 637 just has the exposed hammer.

Any holster for a snub-nose or 2-inch S&W "J-frame" will fit your gun. Only slight discrepancy might be a holster with a retention strap - some makers put different straps depending if gun has a hammer - like yours, or is hammerless (like a 642) or shrouded hammer (like a 638/649).

If you're pocket carrying that 637, I'd highly recommend Mika's pocket holsters - best made for snub-nose revolvers. http://www.frontiernet.net/~akim/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For IWB carry, try High Noon Holsters or any of the big-name makers - Bianchi, Galco etc.

For OWB, Blackhawk makes some good ones - the "speed scabbard" is one that comes to mind.

Thanks for the replies. I was looking at Galco but they don't even have the 637 listed as a model but have the 442 which is why I was wondering if they generally shared the same design.

Take a look at this one from Fist Holsters. It's the best I've ever used, hands down, and I've got a bunch of others. A snubby .38 disappears in the pocket of a pair of shorts, and is very easily drawn consistently and reliably and without having the holster come out with the gun. This is really important at those special times.

I guess I should have mentioned this in my original post, I just didnt think about it. The problem I have with pocket holsters is that I wear bluejeans, even for work, so the pockets are tight at the top and my hands are big, so it doesnt make for a good combination If I ever needed to draw my weapon. I was thinking of some sort of cross-draw or strong side OWB holster. Even still, Thank you for the links, maybe someday I will start wearing some pants with more ccw friendly pockets.

Maybe consider IWB. I might suggest an IWB with about a 15-20 degree forward cant. You can hide the 637 pretty easily that way with a loose over shirt. IWB will conceal a little easier than an OWB in my opinion. Good Luck to you!
