RRA LAR-15 Pro-Seris Elite Rifle
I have been missing an AR-15 for my collection for a long time. I never messed around with them but I had one of my good Recon buddies teach me the ropes of the AR-15 and now I want one. I have a friend who let me borrow his for a month to test it out and I love the RRA LAR-15 Pro-Seris Elite Rifle. It comes with a Wilson Combat Chromed line barrel, Aimpoint Comp M2 Sight and Spacer, Daniel Defense 12.0 FSPM Quadrail Handguard, SureFire M910-WH Vertical Handgrip Weapon Light and some other performance parts. My question is that with all the added goods, do y'all think this is worth the $3,070(W/ Tax Incl.)?

Re: RRA LAR-15 Pro-Seris Elite Rifle
That sounds like a pretty nice rig, but I'm thinking you could build one yourself with a lot of bells and whistles added for half that amount.
My home built AR Carbine probably totals a bit over $1,800-$1900 or so tops (I've never done the math), but $830 of that alone is the EOTech sight and the EOTech 3X magnifier combined, and it wasn't all spent at once. I bought what I could afford, and then upgraded as I could afford to and sold off the parts I didn't keep. The lower receiver and parts kit are standard DPMS stuff, with slightly a lightened trigger, purchased from a local gunstore. The upper is some nameless brand that came barreled originally with an ER Shaw M4 profile barrel purchased from Galati Int'l. I rebarreled it with a 16" HBAR from Model 1 with a 1:9 twist that shoots medium weight bullets real accurately (Midway USA). The stock is a VLTOR EMOD (Fort Worth gunshow). The handguard is a YHM rifle length lightweight free floater with a Magpul AFG attached (Midway USA). I have YHM BUIS sights front and rear (Midway USA). Also from Magpul there's a MS2 sling and an ASAP sling mount (Midway USA), and a MIAD grip and enlarged trigger guard (Fort Worth gunshow). I bought the EOTech sight from a gunstore in Fort Worth, and the EOTech magnifier from a guy on eBay. PMAGS from various sources. I bought an Insight M3X long gun tactical sight with remote switch pad at a discounted price from another member here.
Part of that $1800 was spent on an A.R.M.S. flip up rear sight which I later sold to another member here, as well as a UTG non-floating handguard which I sold to the same person; and part of it was spent on buying a barreled upper from which I ditched the barrel in favor of the HBAR. So when I sell that M4 barrel, I'll recoup more of the cost.
The point is that, by buying the parts and assembling it myself, I saved an awful lot of money. I didn't let snob appeal dictate whose products I bought, unless I couldn't find the kind of part I wanted from another, less expensive manufacturer - the Magpul AFG for instance (which actually didn't cost that much). About the only thing I spent "snob" money on was the 3X magnifier from EOTech. You can find knock-offs for half or less of what I paid for mine. I just wanted to be certain that the magnifier would be the right fit for the sight, have good glass, be rugged, etc., etc. And at the end of the day, my mongrel AR still looks real nice (PIC 1, PIC 2), and it shoots as well as any other one out there.
So unless you're in a hurry to buy an already built gun because you just... can't.... wait.... you might try pricing out the parts you want individually and see if you can save yourself enough money to buy a matching pistol.

I say no, but that is my opinion. I think you could build a better one for less. Check out http://www.m4carbine.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and read some of their info on the AR before you buy.

Re: RRA LAR-15 Pro-Seris Elite Rifle
Here is my build project for my SCAR-4 (Splawn Combat Adaptive Rifle)
Barrel: Daniel Defense 14.5" Inch Mid-Length Govt Profile
Upper Receiver: Stripped Black Rain Ordnance
Lower Receiver: Stripped Black Rain Ordnance
Muzzle Device: Noveske KX3 Flash Suppressor
Trigger: Geissele Triggers-Service Rifle Trigger
Safety Selector: Troy Ambidextrous Safety Selector-Semi
Charging Handle: Black Rain Ordnance w/ PRI Latch
Rear Sight: Troy BattleSight Rear Tritium HK Style Folding
Front Sight: Troy BattleSight Front Tritium HK Style Folding
Pistol Grip: Magpul MIAD Grip
Buttstock: Magpul ACS 6-Position Stock
Handguard: Troy Industries BattleRail TRX Standard 13.2"
Front Sling Mount: Daniel Defense Rail Mount QD Swivel Attachment Point
Rear Sling Mount: Daniel Defense Receiver QD Swivel Attachment Point
Magazine: Magpul 30rd. P-Mag w/ Window plus Ranger Plate
As for the the optics, that is still up in the air. I can't decide to go with either EOTech 557 w/ 3x magnifer or Aimpoint ML3 w/ 3x magnifer. I love 4x32 ACOG's but I'm not trying to spend another $1,300 on optics.
What do y'all think?

Re: RRA LAR-15 Pro-Seris Elite Rifle
Are you dead set on a 14.5" barrel? A 16" barrel avoids a whole lot of paperwork, not to mention having the BATF get all up in your grill, and what's a silly 1.5" matter?
