I spend most of each weekday morning on the phone, because I work with people in India. India is approximately 11 hours ahead of Texas in terms of time zone. (Their daylight saving time scheme is irrational.)
Anyway, I was on the phone when the doorbell rang repeatedly, and then I heard very sharp knocks on the door. I have a window that I can use to see who is outside, and very few visitors realize that.
The guy was white, 40-ish, and looked like a crack or meth addict. He was very skinny and agitated, literally walking around in circles and throwing his hands in the air.
I could not think of a legally acceptable reason to put him out of his misery, and he went away. I hope no one else opened the door to him.

I was on the phone, in a one-to-one conversation, and the circumstances did not seem to call for emergency intervention. Otherwise I would have questioned the guy through the window (which really seems to baffle them) and proceeded as required.
If the guy kept acting like that, he probably is in custody by this time.

I hope none of your neighbors opened the door but some burgulars go through the neighborhoods, knocking on doors. If there's no answer, they kick the door in. I'm in a small town next to a big town and I don't like people like that in my neighborhood. It's mostly imported crime where I live and the PH likes to run them off. It's my job to protect myself, family, house and watch out for my neighbors and I like to use all resources avalible. I normally have the local PH ID them just in case something does happen.
Loved the idea of scaring them through the window. He might have freaked.

This guy did not look like a rational burglar. He looked deranged. That's why I used the word creep.
I might have done something if I had not been on the phone, but it doesn't sound good when you put people on hold to call the cops or confront a creep. It might sound funny to say, "Excuse me while I shoot somebody," but it contributes to the stereotypes about Texas.

Having been home since my knee surgery August 13th, I have been pleasantly surprised at how little walk up traffic we get. The other day though I had one that set me on my heels for a minute.
Doorbell rang, dogs went nuts, and I hobbled to the door with my .45 in my hand. I opened the door with my left hand while keeping my right hand behind me, and all it was was a neighbor whose wife I work with, kind of checking up on me. We talked for about five minutes, and the whole time I have my .45 at about belt level behind me, and those things get heavy after a while. Neighbor finally left and I thankfully rubbed the cramps out of my arm.
Tuesday I went into work to let them know that I will be starting work again this coming Monday 08/30, and the neighbor wife came over to say hi and all that, and she told me that her husband had commented about my trying to hide my gun. He wasn't upset that I answered the door that way, he does the same, he just thought I should have just let it show, or put it on the shelf next to the door.?
Similarly, I couldn't picture myself saying; "Thanks for dropping by, Mike, just let me put my gun away would you?"
They have been getting a kick out of watching me hobble out to put up a camera next to my hummingbird feeders.
