Great Day at FW Gun Show!

Post by lonewolf »

Took two neighbors (both shooters) and my wife. None had ever been. Nothing like seeing the eyes go wide when you enter!

Neighbor lady looking for new revolver, but was somewhat overwhelmed by selection. Since she has never fired a revolver before (her current toy is a .45 auto) I suggested she rent a couple and try them before buying.

Now for the truly interesting part of the story......My wife, who is supportive of my CHL, appears to have found someone from whom she would like to take shooting lessons. I have found over the years, that it is not usually in my best interest to try to teach my wife anything. I'll just have to sacrifice and make a Harley road trip to Amarillo with her (Awwwww.....gee.....) to get this done as soon as she is ready. This particular vendor was very helpful and informative and did not make her feel like a dummy. My beloved, with two degrees, does not like being talked down to, and I don't blame her. She asked roughly 30 million questions, and the gentleman answered every one of them patiently and clearly. He didn't tell her anything I haven't already, but sometimes its definitely better coming from a third party. Gives it some validity.

She even (Gasp!!!!!) got her very own new toy!!!!! A little Taurus .380 TCP. I asked her if I could carry it on occasion, and she gave me permission. (Gee, thanks....) Now here is the rub....if I ever have to draw it, I'll have to deal with the BG falling down laughing because great big hairy Good Guy just pulled out a deadly little gun with A PINK FRAME!!!!!! Couldn't go Unisex, black polymer frame, could we? Just had to go PINK!!! I can hardly wait to show up at the range with that!!! No more glances from the other lane at the tough guy with the big, bad Beretta slamming away.....just little sidelong glances with raised eyebrows as they bang away with their Pythons and 1911's......I guess wearing a bag over your head at the range isn't good etiquette......I guess I could take it out to my buddy's farm and shoot there, no real danger of hitting anything alive, the little critters will all be in their burrows and such giggling quietly to themselves......

This was a big (huge, epic magnitude) step for the wife, and I will remain fully and patiently (and quietly) supportive. Pink frame and all.

When you fire the TCP, just be sure not to limp wrist it! ;-)

Seriously, congratulations! :thumbs2:

Lonewolf, this is a shining example of "whatever it takes" mission accomplishment. Great job!

Ah, the secret to great customer service:
1) Every person is a potential long-term customer, even the ones that are angry with you
2) Every long-term customer must be "won over" every time you see them
3) Every person wants their questions to be answered with dignity and appreciation - even the dumb questions
4) People remember how you treat them, and tell their friends
5) Even when the customer is wrong, do everything possible to make things right.

It comes with its own concealed carry belt pouch and two magazines. Holster is a long way off. She does things like this in bits and pieces, as her comfort level grows. If I seem too eager, she'll back down. Gotta let her go at her pace....
