Arlen Specter is still alive?

Ever the master of the one-line quip! Yes, he is still alive, although perhaps not politically alive for much longer.

There seem to be three or four threads on this already. Here it the one I think has the most comments.

Note that the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Patrick Leahy of VT, is a sponsor (along with Republican Sen Crapo of ID) of a NRA and NSSF supported (and Brady bunch opposed) Bill to change the laws governing FFLs. ((S 941; I think the house version has already passed) .

I called the Minority office of the Judiciary committee and asked about this hearing --- the woman answering the phone said the hearing is not about that bill, but she didn't have any specifics on what it was about. I am waiting/hoping for a callback from Sen Cornyn's aide who handles Judiciary Committee stuff (Cornyn is on the committee).

Might not be time to panic just yet.

Oh, I'm not panicking. I'm just saying it bears watching. My liberal democrat mother used to faithfully watch Rush Limbaugh's old TV show years ago and then complain to me that he made her crazy. I said, if you hate watching him, why do you do it? Why not turn the TV off? Her answer was to the effect that, if there's a snake in your house, you need to keep an eye on it, even if it creeps you out.

I'm not freaking out that there are snakes on the committee, but I do aim to keep an eye on them as long as they're in the majority.
