Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center carry

Post by texasgirl »

I was just wondering if any one knows about the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. I looked at texas3006.com and didn't find it listed. I am going to a women's conference there in October and I'm not sure if we will be walking from our hotel to the Convention Center so if any one has experience with this place I would appreciate it. I also usually carry a small Spyderco but I seem to remember that SA has an ordinance forbidding those.

Last I looked, HBG is city owned and is not posted. Been awhile since I have walked through. UPDATE: Yes it is (still) city-owned, hence cannot be legally posted offlimits to CHL holders.

San Antonio does have an ordinance against lock blade knives and knives with a blade shorter than whatever the state law has for an illegal weapon.... 5.5. inches I think, but I'd have to look it up. However, you are unlikely to be bothered about knives or guns as long as they are concealed. ;-)

Update: Ok, the actual city ordinance is

"It shall be unlawful for any person to intentionally or knowingly carry on or about his person a knife with a blade less than five and one-half (5½) inches in length, which knife is equipped with a lock mechanism so that upon opening, it becomes a fixed blade knife."

So I guess an actual fixed blade knife less than 5.5" is OK, since it is not equipped with a lock mechanism.... Food for thought!

Have a fun trip.

Maybe I Am having a senior moment, but Am I reading that the knife HAS to be 5.5"? According to tthe ordinance, it has to be that long? Did they misprint the wording meanijng that the knife has to be LESS than 5.5?

I dunno about your senior moment, but when I read the text, it says "less than five and one-half (5½) inches in length". (And remember, the state law governs knives that are MORE than 5.5 inches in length.)

I went there in July for a convention. It is quite a large venue. Some of the doors have an old posting (I think 30.05) but most of the doors are not posted at all. I carried the entire time.
