Wings Over Houston

Post by boba »

Does anyone know if Wings Over Houston is CHL friendly? I think the property is owned by the City of Houston.

The FAQ doesn't say yes or no. The only comment about guns or firearms is where to buy hearing protection.

If they don't allow CHL, is there property nearby where I can watch without entering the unamerican zone?

I may have guessed that it is State, or possibly even shared Federal Property, but could be city owned property.
State due to the Texas Air National Guard station there, but also Federal due to the Coast Guard flies out of there, a long with some NASA trainer jets.
If I had to guess, i would think off-limits due to Federal property

Normally at Ellington or Hobby I carry when going to my Hanger.
At Ellington I have to drive inside the secure fence to access my hanger.
Since the hangar is leased by me on city property I am ok.
The Airshow is within a secure area of the airfield and shared by federal entities which you might be on there premises during the airshow could be a gray area not worth exploring. I wouldn't recommend it.
When I am within a secure area of a Texas airport at the Fixed Base operators (FBO) where private aircraft go I carry directly to and from my aircraft only and no where else. Since the FBO leases property from the city it is treated like. A business. Other LEO'S or TSA might inteprate the law differently though leaving you to fight it out in court.

If anyone has suggestions where there's a good view without having to disarm, I would be interested as well.

Just a tad off subject. Be very careful where you park at the air show. Only park on the airfield itself. The wreckers were having a field day last year towing off all the "illegally" parked cars.

Some people park on the shoulder along Hwy 3 and watch from their cars. If it is Sunday You might park In the business parking lots across the street from the end of the runway but I would not leave the car as Howdy said because it might be towed off.

The COH owns the airport, but you would be in the secured area so carrying would be a no-go.

Upon looking at the title of this thread I thought there was a new chicken wing place like buffalo wild wings, or wing stop

That's the best suggestion so far.

Jester, I've done that beside Hwy 3 thing a few times but the best place I've found is a Subway on Clear Lake City Blvd at Crescent Landing. About a block or so from Hwy 3. It's good for me because I drink tea by the gallon and there needs to be a bathroom close. Also I can get my tea and lunch at Subway. We set up behind the building and it's looking right at Ellington. I shouldn't have told you, now you're going to get my place. I'll be in a black Z-71.

I do beleive that you cannot carry to WOH. I worked the events and i have seen signs stating the ghostbuster sign...which is not legal anymore but still iw ould not take my chances...since you are going on to property that two sections of it is Military/Goverment owned...i would not risk it myself...i will be there again this year working.,..

The parking is outside secure area, Airport is owned by city of Houston, you will not be parking on the Federal portion.
So you are ok to leave in your car. Searches if done will be entering the secure area.
