What's cookin'

Post by MoJo »

A mixed pot of beans (kidney and pinto) with a big ole ham bone. Served over rice with a huge slice of cornbread and a glass of cold milk. I'm in heaven!

awww man! I can almost smell it! Sounds amazing! I laugh to think of all the red beans, rice and cornbread hubby and I ate the first few years we were married and both in college! That and Macaroni/Tuna casserole and pasta with homemade marinara and meatballs. Great, now I am hungry and feel the need to cook!

Sounds like delicious fall food! More importantly, is that cornbread sweetened? ;-)

That sounds like some mighty fine vittles at your place.

I have had some cornbread that is so sweet it's almost like a cake. Got a good recipe for that? Isn't there another recipe thread going on?

I can get into that, except for the Tuna Casserole. "rlol"

Yes, there's a recipe thread, too. I'll see if I can find the very sweet cornbread recipe I have and post it there later tonight.

This is more of a meal thread.

It's savory lentils and rice, apricot glazed carrots, and banana bread here tonight.

Turkey, bread dressing as opposed to oyster or corn bread dressing, gravy, mash taters, salad, veggies, rolls. We decided to not wait till Thanksgiving....hmmmm

YUM! The important distinguishing factor for dressing around here is if it was cooked in or out of the turkey.

We had an ex navy cook working out of one of the refinery control rooms. This guy always had a pot of beens ready to eat. I swear I could smell them from the office over the refinery odor. He had a conical paper cup dispenser. We would walk through, grab a cup of beans and squeese them in the mouth while walking through the plant looking at things. THAT WAS LIVING!

My now 13 year old, then 3 year agrees with you WildBill - she held my face in her sweet tiny hands and said "Momma, I am sorry your dinner is too nasty to eat" How do you NOT crackup at that! She still will not eat tuna to this day! :cryin

I'm sorry, but the cornbread has got to be jalapeno-cheese... Or the sweet cornbread my grandma made. Either way, I'd be in heaven.
As for the dressin, It's gotta be cooked INSIDE the turkey. There is no exception.
