Suggestions for Next Year's Texas CHL Forum Day

Post by WildBill »

Adding Forum Member's screen names to the badges was new this year. Since I am bad with names, I found it very helpful.

Suggestion: I am not old, but my eyes are getting old. Next year, please print the Screen Names in a larger font.

New this year: I thought that the scheduling of the safety briefings worked well.

We want feedback from you folks who attended this year's event. Feel free to post suggestions and comments on this thread, but please send them to Events@TexasShooting.com as well. Posting here may give others some good ideas and I'll follow this thread. However, when it comes to planning for next year (6 months from now), I'll be using only the email we receive at Events@TexasShooting.com

We will be evaluating the content (seminars and shooting clinics) as we do every year, so give us your thoughts on new topics you would like to see covered. This goes for seminars and shooting clinics.

Thanks for your input,
Chas.

This was the first time my wife, Divided Attention, and I have attended the Forum Day. I greatly appreciate the nametags, which certainly helped to put faces with names. I also agree with Wild Bill regarding the size of the screen names on the tags. I know there is only so much real estate on that tag, but feel that a nice sized mention of PSC as the host with a smaller, singular event name line would allow for a larger font for most names. I really like that the screen names were in a dark red font versus the black font of the real names.

One other suggestion, if it could be fit in, is to have a simple, informal roll-call to allow the folks present to announce their user name and/or real name before the group at the general information meeting.

We loved the variety of mini-clinics, seminars and shooting opportunities. If at all possible in future years we will plan to attend again.

Next time it might help to include the gate entry code in the emails confirming registration.

Charles, the Friday seminar was WONDERFUL. I now understand why people will come back for repeat performances. I hope to encourage my wife to attend next time there’s an opportunity. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to stay for the second half of Saturday.

My main thought about how to make the forum day even better:

Range time is a scarce, precious resource. Particularly the kind where you can practice drawing & shooting, or shooting on the move, etc.

I feel there'd be greater benefit if the lecture:shooting ratio within each clinic was reversed. In the 3 that I was able to attend, we had about a 3:1 ratio of lecture to skills training. Something more like 1:3 would be more appropriate IMO. I do volunteer instructing from the right seat of students’ cars at Texas World Speedway, and there’s nothing like being a passenger, with an inexperienced driver behind the wheel, hurtling towards a turn at 130 mph to instill the virtue of succinct verbal input.

One way to accomplish this goal of brevity on the range would be to video the lecture portion, and make it available online prior to the weekend. I'd be happy to volunteer to do the recording & uploads if there’s interest.

edit: more words (ironic, I know)

Every single part of my day was excellent!
I like the idea of making the screen names bigger on the tag.

Make the plates on the Texas Stars bigger...At least the side I'm shooting on.

Seriously though, other than a larger font for the screen names, I think everything ran very smoothly.
The whole event seemed to be more organized and streamlined over last year.

I guess there's always room for improvement, but it was very well done.

Edited to correct spelling.

I would characterize it as downright professional. I don't know that I'll ever miss an event after the way saturday went.

Maybe someone could hold the Texas Star so it doesn't spin when you start hitting plates..... "rlol"

:iagree:

I am also thinking this has something to do with the popularity of the Texas Star -- folks wanting to improve their skills against the challenge. ...then again, nevermind. The feel of recoil, the sound of lead against steel and the smell of gunpowder are probably enough to make addicts of most of us.

Overall, the event (and the various sessions making it up) were handled very professionally and smoothly. Kudos to all.

Its not like I yelled a string of obscenities at the Texas Star after dumping three full mags at it.....

I wonder if I could have a gun smith modify my pistol so that it tosses the empties high and back over my shoulder (like, at the peanut gallery!)......
