Technique for T-Shirt concealment

Post by AustinMRH »

I always wear an undershirt. Always have. Even when I wear T-shirts. So I'm usually wearing a t-shirt on the weekends, and not all of them are super long, so I do worry about showing. I've started to tuck my undershirt under the ends of my MTAC belt clips, which pins the undershirt down, make it impossible for the undershirt to also ride up. So even if the outer shirt comes up the undershirt keeps my weapon concealed. Granted it might look a little odd but it does the job.

It also helps with the getting out of the car recover. all you have to do is make sure the over shirt is not bunched up on top of the weapon.

Winter is coming so hopefully concealed will be a lot easier.

I don't usually wear an under shirt when it's warm weather, but for colder weather I picked up some 5.11 Utili-T shirts.
They're made longer to stay tucked in. They come in a three pack for about $25 and are available in a few different colors. Checkem out. Here's a link...http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Home/ ... 09/I/40016" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I should clarify, my undershirt is untucked, hanging over my holster, then tucked under the clips. this essentially keeps the undershirt pinned down, over the gun.

Granted I now have skin on gun contact, but no unconcealment.

Around the house, I rely more on the "don't do yoga stretches" technique to keep my shirt from pulling up over my gun. I haven't gone out in public CCing yet, though, so maybe I'll have to come up with something else for that.

I've found this to be a very effective technique. I'm surprised it hadn't been discussed more.

Since you're going to have to grab the end of the shirt anyway (to raise it), it doesn't slow down the draw much at all.

There's been a few real life unintentional exposures on this forum that had disastrous results, that probably would have been avoided had the person simply tucked their shirt under the holster clips.

One of these http://www.brookstactical.com/Pages/agripgal1.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; makes gun to skin contact completely bearable. Said in best Homer Simpson voice "it's ssoofftt".

i'm a tall guy (6'5"), i've never had a problem with a t-shirt riding up... i also like an undershirt, but i tuck it in to keep the gun off my skin,

i think a lot of us worry about being made, to my knowledge I've never been made and carry a full size 1911 IWB if my shirt tail is untucked, shorts or jeans, dress shirt or t-shirt. (if i must tuck i carry a smaller gun)

Well, i'm a not quite so tall guy (6'3") but I do have this problem. I wear XL t-shirts but some are longer than others - and some are simply too short to reliably use as a cover shirt. So I would love to know where you get your t-shirts!!

Thanks RPB - I have followed those thread's with interest also. It's a matter of definition. When someone says T-shirt, I think of graphic T-shirts. So I was wondering where CJATE finds graphic T's that don't ride up on someone 6' 5".

My graphic Tees (St Johns Bay Graphic Tees) size 3XLT (extra large tall) came from JC Pennys big/tall shop $9.99 each, when on sale, $12.99 reg price..even though 26.00 is mfgrs sugg retail.

But, I'm only 6'0", so I couldn't tell you, but they are PLENTY long, even with a couple years of shrinkage, for me.

I've seen some Tall Tees that are just 2" longer, and some that are 3 or 4" longer than "standard" whatever that is..

I have a very long torso for my height (6') and add to that a generous keg belly (which has shrank 20 lbs in the last few weeks, more to go though!)....so I have to gage the shirts that I wear, both T-shirts/tank tops and button-up shirts. I go for the longer length and usually a darker color and/or pattern. I've had people look me over and not be able to spot the gun, this was situation-appropriate, meaning not just a random encounter on the street.

Thanks again RPB - that sounds perfect!! Just to clarify, the shrinkage is in the shirts or you?? :biggrinjester: :smilelol5:

Shirts; I am growing laterally, but as I age, I expect to shrink vertically. :biggrinjester:

I wore one of those graphic Tees a minute ago ... see viewtopic.php?f=83&t=39455" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One thing is for certain.I want to make sure my weapon is concealed.Not shown to anyone in public.
Whatever that takes.Sometimes,especialy in hot weather,I go small.Back pocket small.
People have a way to panic if they see a gun on someone.They immediately think the worse.
I have several holster.All for certain occasions and all for comfort.I have several handguns
to choose from and yes.I carry while wearing tee-shirts and shorts.My little progear back pocket
holster and Ruger LCP.Looks just like I'm carrying a billfold in my back pocket.
