CC and Sportscar seats
I don't have my CHL yet. And I probably don't have the best gun to CC, 9mm Springfield XDM, 4.5" and doublestack. I'm taking the class tomorrow. I'll be using my XDM initially (going to get a Supertuck)
My question is, for you guys with sportscars or cars that have seats that have a lot of lateral support for your back, how do you carry your gun? Most folks seem to carry IWB at 3:00 or 3:30. I don't know how well that would work in a car with supportive seats, but I don't know of any position that would work well. I guess I'll find out eventually. I assume that I'll eventually be moving to something a bit smaller whether it be an XDSC or something like the Taurus TCP, Ruger LCP, or some sort of compact single stack 9mm.
So, what's the deal with CC while sitting in your car? How comfy/uncomfy is it? And how do you adjust?
THanks

At 3:00 with a good bit of forward cant it is workable for me. Anything further back and it bites me. Everyone is different though so try it and see.

Sell the sports car....get a truck with a bench seat......

Re: CC and Sportscar seats
I use a paddle holster most of the time and carry at about 4-5 o'clock. In my car or truck I move it to about 3 o'clock and it works well there. Neither may be quite as tight as sports car bucket seats, but it is still a slight discomfort that we put up with. My IWB holster is less comfortable, but it has it's advantages and they are worth putting up with under circumstances that I use it.
You don't have to wait until you get your CHL to find out. You can try it in your own car anytime you want. Just don't drive around.

Can't he drive around under the MPA?C-dub wrote:You don't have to wait until you get your CHL to find out. You can try it in your own car anytime you want. Just don't drive around.
Conceal and carry a firearm in one's house, walk from one's house to car all on one's own property, get in one's own car, drive around for a while without getting out of the car, pull back into one's own driveway, walk back across one's property and into one's house, remove concealed firearm. Wouldn't that all be completely legal without a CHL?

Re: CC and Sportscar seats
Thanks all. I've got to order my holster too. We had a garage sale a while back. Just out of curiosity, I used the paddle holster that came with my gun to carry at the garage sale. I even flipped it backwards and carried it like an IWB. It was comfortable enough. I assume a proper holster will be even more comfy. It's hard for me to imagine a full size, double stack gun being comfy.

I carry a double stack gun IWB. It really isn't bad. The real problem with the XDm is how tall it is.
Re: CC and Sportscar seats
That's why I'm thinking of adding an XDSC. That way I get basically the same gun, feel, operation as the gun that I'm used to, just in a smaller package.dalto wrote:I carry a double stack gun IWB. It really isn't bad. The real problem with the XDm is how tall it is.

2005 S197 GT, sporty seats.....but not a full on Recaro . I'm 5'6" 165.
XD45 4" compact, 3'oclock in a Galco OWB high rise holster.. Or supertuck in about the same position (ever so slightly forward).
No issues with carry hours on end in the car.. Trips to CO and NE non stop included.

Rumor is they are coming out with a compact version of the XDm platform.smasraum wrote: That's why I'm thinking of adding an XDSC. That way I get basically the same gun, feel, operation as the gun that I'm used to, just in a smaller package.
Re: CC and Sportscar seats
You're right, and actually, it's already here. It's an XDM with the 3.8" barrel and a 13 round grip (or 19 with grip entensions. I guess I know my next gun (assuming I can live with the thickness of the XDM platform).dalto wrote:Rumor is they are coming out with a compact version of the XDm platform.smasraum wrote: That's why I'm thinking of adding an XDSC. Re: CC and Sportscar seats
I drive a 2004 Mustang GT, and while the seats are not Recaro (stole that one from bronco78, thanks) they are plenty sporty. I carry an XD40SC at about 9:00 (I'm a lefty), and have not problems. For size comparison, I'm 6'2" 270lbs, so I definitely fill the seat. Even with rather spirited driving, it's never been even remotely uncomfortable. The clips on my Crossbreed supertuck occasionally hang up on the leather getting in, but once I'm in, I have no problems.
