Kel-Tec Sub 2000

Anyone have any experience with these? I think I'm going to run out to Carroll's and order one at lunch tomorrow. For around $300, a carbine that can take Glock mags sounds like fun. Plus, it will give me an excuse to pick up a "blue box" Glock 19 in a month or two...

So, does anyone have anything good or bad to say about the Kel-Tec?

I don't know anything about these, but it is built to anywhere near the same quality (or lack thereof) as my P3AT, I wouldn't waste my time.

Yeah I have one. I love it. Don't expect to get something it's not. It's not a high quality rifle caliber carbine. It's a small folding pistol caliber carbine that takes your handgun's mags, and it costs less than your handgun. I'd definitely stash it in my BOB or keep it handy for things that go bump at night, and it's a blast at the range.

My brother in law has one and loves it. Yea, it is not a high quality gun but it is reliable and fun. I am going to get one that will use the Glock 33 round 9mm mags. I see no advantages to use this as a home defense gun over my carry gun but it is as good an excuse as any to buy one. Ballistics are little improved at distances of home defense and all. I have thought of getting one because they are long guns so they can be carried openly in the car but still small enough to use in that tight space. I like the idea for in state travel. But, that maybe just my excuse to get one.

I've got one, and I love it. I originally bought it for trips to see family in New York, where a pistol is out of the question but a carry-ish-able gun is still possible. It's lots of fun at the range, and at 16.5" folded, it fits inside both my laptop bag and my briefcase. I would be lying to say that it's not sometimes my carry gun in that bag... way too nice to know that there's a form of constitutional carry in Texas with a shorter list of prohibited places than handguns, no duty to inform, and some open carry possibilities Mostly, though, it's my car/bedstand gun... it's hard to argue with 33 rounds of JHP 9mm and the better feel of a carbine over a handgun. I'd vote that it's the best $320 I ever spent on a single gun.

It's on my "to buy" list...sure, it's no frills, but the ones I have tried are fun shooters. For the price, you can't go wrong. I've had no problems with the two keltecs I have owned.

One of my regular shooting buddies had one when the first came out. It was a hoot. Not exceptionally accurate, but at fifty to a hundred yards it is much more accurate than a pistol. Can be concealed in a briefcase, so it doubles as a versatile carbine you can take almost anywhere with you.

I must have got a warped one. I had massive FTF issues as received. I sent it back for repair. It's much improved now, but I still get an FTF every now and again. It's a fun range toy but I wouldn't rely on it for anything else.

I picked one up this summer at the FT Worth gun show. I've since put around 500 rounds through it in practice and at matches. (Yes, I shoot it and it's cheap ammo at carbine matches) As others have said, it's not a great carbine that will make perfect headshots at 100 yards. The trigger is mushy, the sights are big and blocky (had to get out my knife and alter the front sight to get it to shoot POA at 50 yards), half the weight of the gun is in the bolt and carrier so it jumps around at every shot and for a lefty like myself I get a nice blast of gas on my face every time I shoot it.

But it is the best folding 16 inch 9mm rifle out there. If you want it, buy it. Be sure to get the Glock magazine version, not the Beretta or SIG mag version. 33 round mags are great.

PS. I just noticed that you are looking to get a G19. There are versions of the Sub 2000 that have a shorter grip for using G19 mags instead of G17 mags. Or you can do some careful trimming and shorten the grip yourself.

We have had one for quite some time. It is a blast to shoot, just not so much fun loading the 33 rd mags. They shoot much faster than they load.

It is what it is. A folding carbine that takes the same mags as the Glock pistol. 9mm in our case. You can put the gun and about 150 rounds loaded in mags into the carry case that KelTec offers.

When you can fit all that into a package the size of a large envelope that is a heck of a deal in my book.

You will want to get the after-market bolt tube cover and operating handle cover from here:

And Kel-Tec's accessories, the carry case, stock extension, and sling. Don't get their second mag holder. It is awful.

And don't expect hollow points to feed reliably. That said, I love it. It's in my BOB.
