Stuck in a loop

This is kind of a question/kind of a rant

Do any of you do what I do ...

Every month or few, I go on a quest to find a better every day carry than I currently have, that fits what I want.

I start out wanting a .45 ACP, maybe a 1911, I remember I want higher capacity, look at double stacks/2011s, look at XDs... look for after market parts, remember capacity, look for 40.s&W, several models, remember recoil and my having only one hand which has arthritis, look at 9mm, compare brands, settle on 3 or 4 I like, look at aftermarket parts, to customize with laser and sights I like, hi cap spare mags, ported barrel... and decide on a Green custom Glock 26 .... just like the one I carry daily NOW ....remember ergonomics, wish there was something else, oh well, I'll try again next month.

Maybe look into grip reduction/RESHAPING places. (As I said before I hate the gun, but it's the only one that fits my requirements, So, I've had Glocks since 1989.. Yes, others come close, and have better ergonomics, at the expense of a round or two, or no laser or no sights I like or ...

It's getting hard to spend money when you already have exactly what you want, maybe I'll buy another .. I guess I'll look for shotguns now ...

Any of y'all do that?
(NOT specifically with a Glock, but with whatever you already carry, and keep deciding nothing fits what you want better than what you already carry?)


Guess I'll look at SAIGA shotguns now. I have an irreplaceable customized Rem 870 I'd hate to ever part with, but ... maybe I can spend a little money fixing up a cheaper SAIGA.

The way I look at this problem is this: A gun is simply a tool. Just like in real life, there are different tools for different jobs, each designed to work best in different situations..........Now go out and fill up your tool box and simply use the right tool for the right job. Don't get frustrated trying to make an adjustable spanner work as a hammer.

I understand where you are coming from. I used to do similar "daydream shopping". Once I would decide on the "perfect" carry, I would change my mind. I agree that there is no perfect carry as it will change from day to day. I think the best approach is to look at your current collect and see what you are lacking, maybe a .357 snub or a 1911, and gradually flesh it out. As you get a wider variety of daily carry choices in your safe, the desire to build the perfect carry starts to subside. I have my collection filled out enough that I am focusing on buying guns I want, regardless of if they are the best CCW option. New guns sure are fun, you need to treat yourself!

I've accumulated different types of carry guns for somewhat similar reasons, except that mine are also usually motivated by comfort.... ....as in my back really hurts badly on some days, and carrying anything on my hip is painful, and the heavier the more painful. Somedays I can't carry IWB, but OWB is just fine. That is also the reason I've experimented with other types of carry, such as shoulder holster and "manbags" (although I generally prefer not to carry "off-body"). And sometimes, it is the shape and size of the gun that matters rather than the weight. Sometimes I can carry my 5" Springfield or my M&P 45 more comfortably than I can carry my Kimber Ultra. I really like my larger pistols, and I shoot them better than my revolvers, but sometimes, a .357 snubbie in the pocket beats all other forms of carrying.

The point is that, whatever is ideal to carry on a given day is a shifting bullseye. Sometimes I try on 2 or 3 gun/holster combinations before I figure out what I can wear comfortably that day.

I bought a 1911, decided I didnt want a single stack 45, sold it, then ended up buying another 1911. Decided, again, that I didnt want a single stack 45 and sold it. Now, I'm looking to get another 1911. In a sense, I share your sentiment, only, you are much smarter than me. I actually buy them, before I realize I dont want them, then sell them, only to buy the same thing again later.

I've thought about that, but I like how slim the 1911 is. I know, my thinking is not logical, but then again, when it comes to obsessions with buying guns, does there really need to be logic?

They claim that between thinner material in that part of the frame and grips that are shaped right, the guns aren't really much thicker than an average 1911. You could call them and ask... Or send an email... It'd be so easy...

If it's cold outside, and it is for 9mo of the year here, I might carry my Beretta, or my new Glock 17.
Or if I don't wanna wear one of the big dogs, I'll tote my Pro CDP, IWB (at ~3:37pm, PST), which I can also wear with my suits if I'm going out on ze town!

So how do you compare Seatle to Texas big cities, how about the "burbs"

It's pretty cool. Everything up here is different, from the highways, to little things like coffee shops and espresso stands on every corner.
Lots of prevailing Lefty-ness, but there are some nice ranges and nice folk intermingled. definitely a different culture all around up here, though.

neatest thing is the diversity you see at IDPA matches, huge numbers of folks, too!

as for the topic at hand, I bought a couple holsters the other day at a range I just found, cause they were perfect, of course. I've since decided they're not perfect, and ended up ordering a new one from CompTac. funny, seem to keep reverting back to the same ol' stuff! haha
