TSA Security

Post by Kythas »

Last week I found myself cleaning out my laptop bag which I carry on to airplanes every time I fly. Upon cleaning it out, I found a 6" screwdriver in it. I have no idea how long it's been in there (I don't even remember putting it in the bag), but know for sure I have boarded several planes with this screwdriver in my laptop bag.

This just reinforces my belief that the whole TSA screening process is nothing more than political theatre, a security dog and pony show if you will. While I'm glad it wasn't discovered (I don't know if I'd have been arrested attempting to carry on a 6" screwdriver), I'm actually appalled that it wasn't. If I can board multiple aircraft in multiple airports with a 6" screwdriver in my bag going undetected by the x-ray machine every time, what else is getting through?

Compare this to TSA agents attempting to seize Gen. Joe Foss' Medal of Honor because they didn't recognize it and thought it was a weapon. For some reason, I don't believe they're hiring the cream of the crop there.

In recent weeks, I've heard about them missing:
2 18 inch saw blades
1 6 inch hunting knife
1 loaded .40 cal handgun.

Just add your screwdriver to the list.

Maybe they thought it was one of those Mall Ninja throwing stars. :banghead:

General Foss's MOH was taken at Sky Harbor. Here's what I think of Sky Harbor: search.php?keywords=Sky+Harbor&terms=al ... mit=Search" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Actually, there wasn't anything for them to catch. Hand tools up to 7" are allowed in carry on bags.

10" metal knitting needles are fine. My small blade Swiss army knife with scissors is considered far more dangerous
it's socially unacceptable to be ahead of your time.

My only thought is that some TSA personnel need to go the the pen for robbery. And the TSA needs to apologize their collective Gluteus Maximi off to General Joe.
I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do those things to other people and I require the same of them.
