AK-47 Chest rig

Post by 74novaman »

For those of you who are of the "surplus mall ninja" persuasion or just think a chest rig would be kind of nice to have if only they weren't so dang expensive, I have a heads up:

I ordered 2 of them yesterday, and they got here before lunch time. :biggrinjester:

They come with 3 30 rd magazine pouches and 4 grenade pouches. Both of mine were in good condition, and fit the mags easily.

I had lots of magazines, but nothing to carry them in. This would be a very nice, cheap "bump in the night" type rig I think.

To those who have used chest rigs in the past, what the heck else do you put in them besides mags? Im thinking about cutting off the grenade pouches and getting some webbing sewn on so I can attach a handgun holster or an extra mag pouch.

OMG OMG OMG ... Why do you NEED something to carry LOTS of magazines in?
Paper sacks should be sufficient. Maybe a "green" recycled carry bag, if it's small.
People should ban big tough garbage bags too and restrict them to only certified garbagemen who are trained in their use. :smilelol5:

looks nice, thanks for the heads up, I could use one... at that price, maybe several

Why cut off the grenade pouches?

Just pop down to your local gun retailer and buy some grenades.

The press keeps telling us that the Mexicans are buying
their fully auto machine guns, RPG's, and grenades from
American gun stores.

So I guess it must be true. :-)

You're a CHL, so you'll get all the above gear without a problem.

I picked up one of these this weekend:

It doesn't have any grenade pouches, but it holds 6 PMAGS just fine and hangs on a shoulder.

On my chest rig, I have mags for my AR, mags for my pistol, and an admin pouch for first aid stuff, and batteries, and a dump pouch (It folds up quite nicely). I've also used it to carry most of my survival gear when I was teaching Combat Survival Training.

This leather pouch looks pretty cool.

This looks a lot like a few I have that were sold as surplus a few years ago. They are basically shoulder bags with partitions between each of the 5 mags they hold. I figure it is a good way to keep a handful of loaded mags handy and portable for whatever reason. I'm not sure if this is the same thing as what is in that 2nd link.

I'm tellin' you, those chest rigs are great for wade fishing in waders when you can't get to pants pockets.
I better order some before Washington D.C decides the only use is to carry lots of hi cap magazines and bans them.
