Need advice

Post by bcdudley »

I am awaiting my CHL license still, but while I am waiting, I would like to go ahead and purchase a holster. I currently use a Blackhawk Nylon iwb that I carry in the small of my back. After reading here, I see that is a bad idea, but it is comfortable for me.

I am a pretty good size guy at around 250 pounds and a size 40 waist band. I typically wear blue jeans and tucked in t-shirts. I will be carrying a Sig Pro 2022.

I would much rather carry owb, but that won't be very possible without leaving my shirt untucked. Even then, it would be difficult without at least the bottom of the holster showing.

That leaves me with iwb. Can I get some suggestion on good comfortable holsters and places in the Dallas area to find them. I am typically either in the Carrollton or Duncanville area.
I am not opposed to used if the price is right and it is comfortable.

I am not sure of any places in Dallas, but im sure you might be able to find a comptac mtac holster somewhere. I usually use a crossbreed supertuck which i like a lot but you have to order one online.

The 2022 is a pretty big gun to carry every day, I do not think it will take very long to find out that it will not be a favorite summer gun, but I do realize that some people do carry them year round. My favorite holsters come from either TT GunLeather or DM Bullard, TT takes months to have it made and delivered, DM is faster and is Azyle Texas, they are both very good products and will last forever. As for finding a store, Cabella's and Bass Pro has a reasonable selection but most will be holsters that fit many different models rather than one made for a specific gun, which I prefer. It may be worth a look on the Sig Forum and search for what the people there use for that specific gun or check out Galco and see if they are on Ebay or in an internet dealers stock....

It is a big gun, but as I said, I am a pretty big guy. I wear the same clothes, summer or winter. Always blue jeans and a t-shirt. I don't even think I own a pair of shorts. I was talking to another guy I work with and he said he has carried his in the small of his back for many years.

I may just stick with that for now and go with a Blackhawk nylon holster with a strap. I am just thinking that carrying at the 3 would not be very comfortable or convienient.

JMPHO, but there are many other times on the clock. I thought I had mine all figured out at 10 - 11 with crossdraw, but one day for grins I went to 1:30 - 2 and voila I am more comfortable, less printing and it is an easy draw.

Long story short - keep moving that holster around, different cants, depths and the like.

Good luck!

I carry a 5" 1911 year round, it can be done. Peoples preference for holsters varies as much as anything else, try until you find what you like. I'll add, I had a 2022 that would eject the magazines with and IWB. The placement of the mag release would allow the holster to press it an release the mag.

I like the Summer special style of holster, but it's not a tuckable one. I think you can carry the Sig., may need to move the holster to 3:30-4:00 on the belt.

You won't find a better IWB holster than the Crossbreed Supertuck, Comp Tac MTAC, or other clones for less than $100.

Order one. You'll be happy you did.
