Does anyone shoot reloads in glocks?

Post by Mr.ViperBoa »

I was just curious if anyone ever does it. I know your not supposed to because of leading in the barrel, but what about reloads that are done with fmj's,
can thos be fired in a Glock?
I was thinking about getting into reloading but its pointless if I cant shoot them in my glock. :headscratch

I guess I could do it if I used an after market barrel but if they are fmj's would it make a difference?

I have shot FMJ reloads in a couple, when a guy gave be a bunch, but since I don't reload myself (yet) I hesitate, but it went ok.

Pasadena gun store used to have an exploded Glock, don't recall why it exploded, one employee said he blamed Blazer aluminum casing. That was 30 something years ago.

I do, 115gr JHP over 5.1 gr. Unique in a G17. YMMV, almost every manufacturer says not to use reloads.

I have owned a G17 and a G22 for about 15 years now. Both guns have been shot thousands of rounds....98% of which have been my reloaded ammo.

I stick with FMJ bullets. I do not trust lead due to different hardness levels between various manufacturers.

I have found both Glocks really like a 124 grain bullet loaded to ~ 1200 FPS. This is close to the NATO load they were designed around.

Thanks for the info. I have a G22 and have been doing some serious thinking about learning to reload. (after I get my AR 15 pistol)
I just wanted to make sure it was going to work with my Glock. Thanks.

What recipe have you been using? After I run out of 115s I plan to go to 124s.

I have a G17 & 34 and all I shoot is reloads. Thousands have gone through both guns with zero problems. There's nothing to fear in reloads if they're done correctly. I use FMJ bullets, Bullseye and a Dillon 650.

I agree, just about every manufacturer says not to use reloads. If I were them, I'd say the same thing because they have no way to know how anyone assembles their ammo.

I use my glocks for competition, and only use reloaded ammo in them. I use Precision Delta FMJ bullets in my Glock 17/34.

Like mentioned above, if you want to shoot lead cast bullets, just buy an aftermarket replacement barrel, and you'll be fine.

ETA:

My recipe:
- 147gr 9mm FMJ (Precision Delta)
- 3.2gr Titegroup
- OAL = 1.150

Thousands and THOUSANDS of reloads have been shot through our Glocks. Never a problem.

I shoot tons of them through Model 34, 17 and 19. Usually Precision Delta FMJ or Montana Gold CMJ, either 115 or 124 grain.

Proper handloads are safe to use in ANY modern gun in good condition.

Improper handloads can be unsafe in all guns.

It's up to you to know what constitutes a "proper" handload.

For Glocks, in addition to all the usual caveats, I would avoid any loads with a soft lead bullet; the polygonal rifling can be a problem with lead buildup.

5.0 gr AA# 2 with 124gr FMJ in Glock 17 9mm and 5.5 AA#2 with 165gr FMJ in Glock 22 .40 S&W. Never had any issues with these loads. Also have a FireDragon barrel for the M22 for .357 Sig and shoot reloads through this, as well.

I've been shooting reloads through my G22, no problems so far. I don't use cast or lead bullets though. I have been using Hornady XTP's lately.
