Not enough.

He neither attempted any type of evasive maneuver nor tried to get off another shot.

He's one lucky dude that the hog kept going instead of taking revenge.

Nothing was going through his mind. It was all coming out the other end.

I don't think his mind registered what was going on fast enough to be scared.

Holy smokes is right!
All the more reason to use a gun(or multiple) if hunting from the ground. The ONLY way I'd hunt hogs with a bow is from a tree stand.

What was he doing hunting hogs with a bow on foot instead of from a stand? Maybe I'm a wussie-boy, but there is no way I would hunt hogs on foot without a firearm, and certainly not without a quick followup shot capability.

He was in absolutely no danger.

First it was a Javelina, not a hog. What you saw is typical of a Javelina when arrowed. They will run wildly (any direction), I've had it happen at least a dozen times.

If you really want to see some excitement, try calling them with a distress call, they run helter skelter every direction all around you, sometimes just a foot or so away. As long as you remain still...they don't even see you.

Your only danger from Javelina is if you wound one and happen up on it before seeing it. They will normally try to get under some type of cover or back into a hole under a prickly pear. Normally...they will pop their teeth together to warn you, but sometimes they will charge. Also...NEVER approach Javelina with a dog!

They positively HATE dogs and will do all they can to shred one to pieces. Most dogs (if unaccustomed to Javenlinas, will run right back to you), not good.

+1 for flintknapper

Javalina may look like pigs or hogs but they are unrelated.
They are collared peccary. They have very good smell and very poor
eye site. They do hear well and may become confused if you are down wind
and they hear you but cannot smell you.

I have seen as many as 29 in a group but normally they will travel in groups of
less than 12. They are not good for deer feeders.
They are mighty tasty, especially smoked.
They are excellent game with a pistol or bow.

And here I thought a Javelina was a long pointy stick they threw in track.
