Just now learned that my doctor died unexpectedly

Whether the need is great or small, there is power in prayer, especially when God's people raise their voices together.

Just now learned that my doctor died unexpectedly

Post by The Annoyed Man »

I am so sad to say that my much loved personal physician, Dr. Michael Cohen, passed away unexpectedly on February 27th of a massive heart attack at age 53 while playing basketball with his son.

I really, really liked this man. Physically, he looked to me like nothing so much as a talking Koala Bear. He was a short guy with frizzy hair, and he had a Boston accent - which is where he was originally from. A self-described left of center independent, we talked amiably about politics, and he was alway very respectful and pleasant, even when he had an opinion different from mine. He loved sports, and he supported local little league softball teams, and he was a devoted Red Sox fan. He had a gentle demeanor and a ready smile, and a good sense of humor. He always took real good care of me. He was a good doctor.

I found an online obituary HERE.

Although it has been over a week now, I am sure that his family must still be devastated. Please pray for their comfort as they try to figure out how to do life without him.

RIP, Mike

Thanks

TAM:

I'm sorry to hear of this man's passing. "The good die young" seems true in this case.

In a related (geography for TAM + young age) story, IIRC, there was a Methodist minister
in Grapevine who died suddenly of a brain aneurysm just recently. He was early 50's also.

For those of us that have passed 50, this is kind of a bracing wakeup call that any time could
be our time.

My minister has had a bad ticker since he was a child. He lives each day as if it were his last,
and has let the congregation know that he perseveres, regardless. He's only about 50/51, but
some kind of heart event could take him from us in a moment.

Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind;
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

I just had the oddest thing happen.... Mike Cohen used to give me an "uninsured discount" off of his normal rates, because I have to pay for everything out of pocket. My last visit to him was maybe 3 weeks before he died. Apparently, his front desk charged me the full rate when I checked out, and I didn't know it. Truthfully, I don't expect the discount, but I am grateful for it when it happens. Anyway, there was a reimbursement check in today's mail for $69.00, and I had no idea what it was for. The sender is in Tennessee, so I had no idea what it was about. I just got off the phone from the sender, and that's how I found out what it was......

....a parting kindness from a great guy whom I still miss today, issued just 10 days before he passed.
