Youngest daughter called today.

I got a call from my youngest daughter who lives in Round Rock, she said someone in her nice safe neighborhood had killed and mutilated one of their cats. She wanted advise on a gun purchase. I told her that I thought a 9mm or .38 would do what she wants. I suggested she and her husband go look at some guns. But, call me before purchase so they don't get sold a bill of goods.

I told her a revolver was simplest to use but only 5 or 6 shots. Suggested S&W, Ruger and Taurus. In pistols I suggested a G19, a M&P or M&Pc, a PX4 or an XD. Telling her these were guns I'd be comfortable with and know they will do the job she is interested in. There are three kids from 13 years to 15 months living there I don't want anything to happen to them... I'm one of those grandpas that you really, really, don't want to get on the bad side of if his grand children are concerned. I guess you could say I'm just a little protective.

I also suggested she get her CHL and start carrying everyplace she goes if it is legal. Benny, her husband, is an ex Air Force spook he knows how to shoot but isn't a shooter he has no problem with CHL though. It looks like dad needs to pack up his training gear and make a trip to Round Rock. ROAD TRIP!!!!

For "at home" - not to carry - a Marlin lever gun in .357 Mag. 10 rounds, intuitive to operate, longer sight radius than a handgun, innocent-looking (to media) if she ever needs to use it. Parked in the corner, full mag tube, hammer down on an empty chamber, a short movement of the lever makes it ready-to-go. Followup shots as fast as semi-auto, with practice.

I agree 100 percent. My marlin 357 loaded with .38s is the only gun my wife feels comfortable with. It's light, minimal recoil and with a smoothed action is easy to manipulate

True, but most animal killers don't become serial killers. While I understand one being upset about an animal getting mutilated, how owning a gun would have changed that is way beyond me. The cat may have been mauled by a neighborhood dog. My neighbors Rotty got hold of my daughters Chihuahua and I beat that dog senseless with my fists and feet to get him to let go. The whole thing took maybe 2 minutes and in that short of a time, the Chihuahuas lungs where hanging out to see and part of his intestines had to be held in while we rushed him to the vet. He managed to live but the point is. If that could happen to him in 2 minutes or less, I could easily picture a dog tearing a cat to pieces given a few more minutes. Maybe the neighborhood is still safe, with the exception of some big dogs running around loose. I don't think I would assume satan worshipers had moved in just yet.

Regardless, It sure never hurts to have a home defense weapon. I would recommend a shot gun. For home defense, nothing beats a shotgun.

i thought i was the only one who thought it was a stretch to go from no gun to gun over a cat. ofcourse i hate cats.lol
