Another Campus Alert FAIL

Colleges are places to learn, not die at the hands of attention-starved mass-murderers.

Another Campus Alert FAIL

An emergency alert was issued at about 1 a.m. by the Department of Public Safety stating that a man was reported with a gun in the Chemistry Building at about midnight.

Though the incident was initially reported at midnight, Brown said because the police did not receive a confirmation of the suspect’s presence, did not receive other calls reporting the incident and did not have any reports of shots fired, the alert was not immediately sent out. The alert was sent at 1 a.m.

While the emergency alert was issued through text and voice messages, a campus wide e-mail about the incident failed to activate, Brown said.

Brown said if an incident like this happens in the future students should take safe and appropriate measures.
With no alert, how does one know what measures to take hours later?

Restocking the Meth Lab? Needed beakers, bunsen burners?

Ah, call me cynical, but the administrators will later be able to testify at various forums that they have a campus alert system, and it is used for 100% of the calls that meet the criteria for an alert.

They will not mention anything about promptness, however.
