So, my buddy with a CHL got pulled over last night...

He was on his way home from work about 11pm, and was a little over the speed limit. He got stopped, and he handed the Sheriff's Deputy his DL and his CHL, as he had a G19 in the console. The Deputy asked to secure his firearm during the traffic stop (we all know this debate, but it's not relevant here). He did, and the Deputy went back to his car for a few minutes. Another Deputy then showed up behind him. Not sounding so good, right?

They both came up and started chatting with him. It seems that my buddy had shot up all of his good ammo at his property last weekend, and had the G19 loaded with ball rounds. They told him he needed to get some good hollowpoints back in there, and just chatted for a few minutes. They asked him about his service, as he has disabled veteran license plates. My buddy is ex-Army, as was one of the Deputies. They never said a word about his speeding, and sent him down the road with a "Take care".

I am glad that he did not get cited. Can you reveal in what county this was?

Out of pure curiosity, did you just want to know to see if it was in a traditionally non-CHL-friendly area?

I don't think this was going to go into a disarming situation...And we all know that to be pretty rare in Texas...

In this case "Please secure your weapon.":shock:

If its in the console, its secure, from a handling aspect, not locked up, like they may have implied...

But I sure ain't going to reach or move my hands anywhere, unless they see me, and its to the door handle to step out if I have to...Which I hear is getting rare on traffic stops on the shoulder of right of ways...

Get some good hollowpoints...Now thats priceless...

Had to have been a Katy PD guy...Or maybe even a Harris County Sheriff Deputy...They're pretty hip to us...

It was Harris County Sheriff's Dept.

Being an ex-police officer myself, I would be hard pressed writing that 10-over ticket to a guy with Disabled Vet plates, an Airborne and a U.S. Army decal on the window, and a CHL. Usually that late-night traffic stop is for PC to look and see if anything else is going on, like a DWI.

He can take the savings from the ticket and buy a "law enforcement" sized box of Gold Dots!

Good outcome to the story! I am sure it is common for good folk to get this exact same treatment throughout our great state.

We all hate tickets, but I have received few compared to the amount of speeding I have done on I-45 I hope that he decides to write a letter to the shift captain in appreciation of his professionalism. ......I have on many occasions.

And you know, that's a less-mentioned benefit of CHL plastic. From a LEO point of view, seeing the CHL and driver license at the same time tells him that this individual has passed a stringent background check. He can't take that to the bank until he runs the TDL and license from his vehicle, but he can assume the person he stopped is one of the good guys.

What more could he do to secure it. Did the officer want him to unload his firearm while he watched?

No kidding...Did he get it??? This would be one of those rare occurances...

I would never assume anything is going to be excused, or waived, if I hand over my CHL and DL during a traffic stop...

I actually, to be brutally honest, would not want a warning...Write me the citation...

If you, or I get a warning it won't be because we have the CHL...

Its going to be for all the "yes sirs" and "no sirs" and "yep you got me, sorry I was not paying attention to my speed, thank you for bringing it to my attention..."

But even with that, I am not expecting anything but the ticket...That way my attitude is already in the right place, and everyone goes home from that stop...
