Where To Carry (or not)

Post by Running Arrow Bill »

A CHL holder should have received a copy of the Texas penal code & weapons booklet in their registration packet. READ IT. It tells all the places you can't (or shouldn't) carry. Simple as that.

Read the booklet again...

If a place or place of business has ANY kind of no gun sign, accept the fact that they are "anti-gun". Go somewhere else if you don't like it. Don't worry about whether or not the sign is "legal". They made their point...

Interesting question/observation/opinion. Here's my take on it: I won't let a "gun busters" or any other little bitty thing worry me at all. Obviously (to the educated CHL holder) meaningless in the state of Texas. I will, however, respect all legal signs. That being said, if I see a big 30.06 at/near an entrance, I will consider the place ant-CHL and act appropriately. I will not hover around the sign with my ruler to measure the letters, or my pocket reference copy of the verbatim language of the sign to verify validity. I have better things to do. Like leave. Take my business elsewhere. :patriot:

Same here. Anything other than a legitimate 30.06 get's little more than a smirk as I walk on in.

If I understand what you are saying, the State of Texas lawmakers disagree with you.

...FOUL!!!BAD advice...there have been several threads lately you might want to read...on this very subject...our legislators have fought long and hard for our rights...I won't give them away cheaply...WE have to obey the letter of the laws you quote...so do the places of business...my Mama don't even tell me what to accept or what to do if I don't like it...what to worry about...and you are .....who??? try stating your opinions without dictating to the rest of us what to do...you'll find the reception warmer...most of us won't respond too well to this kind of down-your-throat post...YOU might want to read the booklet again...most of us can quote it and live by it daily... :nono:

Texas State Law requires the 30.06 sign in all its requirements to carry the rule of law. Nothing else is any more than a sign for a CHL holder. Other signs are for other folks.
To quote one of our own CHL Instructors. Dont read other peoples mail.

Bill if you want to walk away from a ghost buster or simple "no guns" sign that is your option. Rest of us will honor 30.06 & nothing less.

Keep it civil gents I am going to bed. :thumbs2:

I look at a gun buster sign as a business not wanting someone who is *NOT* responsible enough to obtain a CHL to carry a gun. They probably posted the sign for insurance purposes. For all we know, they specifically posted the gunbuster to allow CHL to carry, but to re assure their insurance underwriters. It is not that difficult to do research and find out how to keep people from carrying legally on the premiss, so I assume they posted the type of sign they did on purpose.

*Edited to carry my intended meaning.

Some places post gun buster signs to keep unlicensed concealed handgun carriers out. I feel certain it works. ;-) All kidding aside, it is simply inaccurate at best to think posting a gun buster sign is akin to being anti gun. First off, there are folks who feel carrying guns on your person in modern society is for gangsters and robbers. This does not make them "anti gun". In many cases a gun buster sign is a deliberate action intended to make customers feel "safe" about being in the store. The average, (never owned a gun in their life), citizen may believe the sign has magical powers. If the sign isn't the one and only sign state law requires me to honor, I walk right past it with my mouth closed. I can't imagine any reason to read more into a simple sign than it is meant to mean.

I can confirm that my bank knows what is required to ban CHL carry. The thing to keep in mind is that they choose not to post it because they don't care if you do carry seeing as how a gun that will not be seen isn't going to scare a soccer mom, or irritate their insurance company. Additionally are you sure that the sign you see was posted by the business? We had a person come in once and try to hang gun buster signs on our front doors without telling us, and when confronted they tried to tell us they were making it safer for us and our customers. Third parties have been known to hang anti-gun signs, and some businesses do knowingly post non-compliant signs to make the masses think they are banning guns, while permitting legal licensed concealed carry. As for passing a non-compliant sign, I have to say that is a personal decision that one has to make based on what they know, think, feel, and what consequences they can accept.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

I carry unless they have signs or magnetometers. Simple as that.

Don't know why the OP started a new thread on this. He threw this out in another thread, was promptly answered and never responded back...

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=43921&p=531432#p531432" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As I responded then (with no answer) if you do what your suggesting, some towns you could hardly go anywhere. When someone has a gunbuster sign up, I don't know what they mean by that. Does it mean "no robberies?" "No Cops with guns?" "No unlicensed firearms?" There is a reason businesses are required to post the 30.06 :rules:
