It helps to call

Post by Gunner21 »

I finally saw my status updated on the 14th of April, with one hiccup; I sent the wrong DD-214. So instead of waiting for the letter to come I went proactive and sent out the proper DD-214. On the 22nd I called DPS to see if it had been received. Everything was good to go other but I probably wouldn't see my CHL until mid May. I checked again today 03/25 and my status is pending manufacturing. Someone at DPS likes me.

I guess the take away from this would be; Stay on top of your application status. Sometimes a simple polite phone call is enough to nudge things through.

I completely agree. They have literally thousands of applications to deal with and if yours has a kink in it (like mine did), a phone call with a pleasant helpful tone goes a long way to shorten the wait.

I ended up calling once a week till they told me it would be about 4 -6 weeks and I would see it in the mail. Two weeks later I had it! Not sure if the phone calls helped but they didn't hurt.

I used their email option and left a very polite note. The next day, I got a note saying they were very busy, so please be patient. However, my status changed by that time. Not sure, like you say, if it was the polite prompting, or if it was destined to change anyway.

Never does hurt to be polite. Might makes someone's day to the point they will take that little extra step with you.

Well, I spoke with Victor from DPS, and he told me that everything is "green" and just to give the agents some time to complete the processing.

I promise to only check twenty times a day until I get the license in the mail :)

it's been, 4+ years now.. I have to renew in May of 2012...
last time I was patient, and waited the 60 days before I called..

I was extremely polite, "yes ma'am, no ma'am, I know you're probably swamped..." and
the lady was very-very nice.. put me on hold, found my paperwork, told me it was all okay,
and she would get it on top of the stack.. had my license about 3 days later..

With all that's in the legislature in Austin right now, it will take 30-60 days before all the dust settles,
and the instructors are updated on the current changes. So I'm going to wait 60 days before I take my renewal
and mail it in about 6 months before my chl expires, and that way not risk any
expiration.. so if it takes 90 days to process, who cares?

Ha ha! Thanks man! That show was like a soap opera for kids. It was so serious, the only thing I truly remember about it was the 'Wave Motion Gun' firing out of that hole in the front of the submarine. They would stress and strain about firing it because it took all their resources up, they would debate and argue, probably sacrifice chickens and give away their first borns before firinig it. I couldn't WAIT for them to fire it! :anamatedbanana Coolest part of the show.

On Topic: Both times that my app had a 'major' update was the morning after I had contacted the dps to make a polite enquiry. Might just be coincidence, but... Right now I'm just happy that it updated again this morning once to manufacturing. Soon I'll have to break myself of the habit of checking for status updates. :clapping:

Off Topic: That show put me on the road to my other current hobby. If one can't have a real space battleship, a scale model of a WWI/WWII era one with working cannons sure goes a long way. Esp. when you find a club full of guys with other battleships who will 'let' you shoot at them. I say 'let' because the other fleet tends to shoot back. :fire
