Anyone watch "Hogs Gone Wild?"

Post by Commander »

"Hogs Gone Wild" , I believe is on the Discovery Channel. Watched it once -they spend hours setting humane traps for wild hogs; then once one has been caught, they go in and wrestle it down, tie it up and haul it off to a more remote location to set it free. :headscratch I wondered how many litters of baby hogs were born during the time they spend trying to catch one hog.....the method seems highly ineffective in reducing the hog population. I wondered why not just shoot the darned things like I assumed most farmers and ranchers do. No guns of any kind are shown at all. To defend themselves the "hunters" carry bayonet sized knives. Finally decided that the show was being politically correct and not promoting the use of evil guns.

They should have chased them, trapped them, and set them free in bin Laden's compound. :evil2:

That, or made wild pork sausage out of them.

I have never watched it, though.

Watched it for about 5 minutes one time. I figured they weren't solving anything. They were just causing someone else a bigger problem.

Just a reminder to not post any hunting pictures in this thread. You can post them in the Hunting Photos section and link to them from here if you like. Thanks! :tiphat:

I watched it once and found it unbelievable.
The woman who ran the hog removal service was all made up for the camera while spot lighting hogs. I can't imagine any rancher in Texas hiring a humane removal firm. Here in DFW, animal control tries to capture and put down feral hogs. FWIW, I've seen hog turned soil along I-30 in Grand Prairie, smack dab in the middle of DFW.

Watched an episode over the weekend... Why are they trapping and relocating? :headscratch Two guys (animal control) and their dogs cornered a 400 lb hog, couldn't hold it down to tie it, and they had to kill it with a knife.. What's the point? Seriously? All that risk only to slowly kill something that would have been easier, more humane, safer and properly handled with a rifle from the outset.

Not a fan...

Pay a few of the local HS boys to put up a few stands and shoot them on sight...

There's even some good sized hogs in Southlake. I worked on the city's vehicles for a few years and the police would show me pictures of the hogs they trapped and shot weekly near Grapevine Lake. They wouldn't ever tell me what they did with the pigs, just that they wouldn't let me have one or anyone else that saw them and asked. Hopefully they went to the food pantry.

That show better be conforming to those peta people and not making a practice of catch and release. That's for trophy fishing only.

Do they actually show them being released? I'm wondering if it's just something Discovery doesn't disclose to keep those PETA people from crying foul

It is a ridiculous show. Definitely Hollywood. And definitely P.C.
