cajun music
Are there any musicians in the San Antonio area that would like to get together for a jam? I play the cajun accordion but can't find anyone to play with :( People seem to be a little afraid of cajun music. I would also be interested in sitting in with a country band. Just a song or two.

Back in 1981 while living in Italy i was talking to a Frenchman that had been to Louisiana. He stated that the food was great but nothing like in France. To me the funniest thing he said was he could talk to the people in French and they understood everything he said, but he couldn't understand any of there answers. They must have been talking some other kind of French.

Their French is influenced by some African and local Indian words. One example is the word "gumbo".

Then I am sure that you have heard Jo-el Sonnier.texaspilgrim wrote:I play the cajun accordion but can't find anyone to play with :( People seem to be a little afraid of cajun music.

Sho nuff. Me? I cut my teeth on Jo-el. He didn't like that much. BTW, I am wild bill as well. My nickname since I was a kid.
Re: cajun music
Well, I am in SAT. I play the guitar, bass, and drums...but I have never played anything like this. The closest I get to Cajun is NOLA funk music...Galactic, The Meters, Robert Walters, etc. I primarily play some Jazz, Americana, Indie Rock, etc.
Fair warning...I haven't played with anyone in over 10 years though...lol. My chops are rusty and my playing has become more of a hobby than a habit.
My favorite Acadian of late is Marc Broussard. Nothing close to cajun music...but he's from Carencro, LA.

There was a music store that I would pass by when I lived in California. They used to have bumper stickers which were a play on the California anti-drunk driving slogan, but they said:texaspilgrim wrote:People seem to be a little afraid of cajun music. Play an Accordion,
Go to Jail
That's the Law!
BTW, Jo-el Sonnier's "Come On Joe" album is an early attempt at his country music career. It is an excellent album. I am sad that he didn't continue more music in that vain.

Wildbill,
Yes we accordion players have been known to be a wild bunch. They tried to change us through forced therepy, but we just kept on squeezing. We may have to go in hiding sometime in the near future, all because society fears what it doesn't understand. Please people, just leave us alone with our accordions. We mean no harm.
