Talon Wallet Holster for LCP

Post by jerry_r60 »

I thought I'd share my thoughts on a new Talon wallet holster for an LCP. I've been looking around and reading, trying to finda comfortable and practicle way to carry a LCP. Since it's small, I was wanting something easy to put on / take off quickly. The concept of a wallet holster sounded ideal. I ended up getting the Talon wallet holster. I just received it and it looked nice. My intent is to use this with Levi 517 jeans primarily. I saw a Youtub video from talon saying it fit just fine with 501's but with some other pants, like dockers, the pistol may be visible through the top of the pocket.

I put the holster with pistol in my back pocket of my 517's. It seemed to fit nice and i can draw from it reasonably well however, the top of the pocket doesn't close against the back of my pants. This means the top ofthe pistol is visible if looking down into the back of my pocket. So, this looks like it won't work out for me after all.

I thought I would share.

Ok, first time uploading pics so we'll see.

Taking one in my back pocket wasn't the easiest thing either, my wife thinks I'm a nut. The flat panel that masks the pistol shape does a good job and the rough side is out and holds the thing in my pocket well. I was surprised that I could draw from it fairly easily. It is thick to sit on. My cheap IWB is actually more comfortable but I was hoping this thing would be convenient to have in the car and then just drop in my pocket when I get out.

I almost bought one of those for a Keltec P32. I was going to carry it in my front pocket though.
I haven't carried the P32 since I bought my IWB holster for my Kahr P40.

No, I take that back. Weekend before last, I threw it in my shower bag in a Galco Stow-N-Go
while I was camping at Bob Hall Pier. First time in a long time I've carried it. I should probably
rehome it... But it's such a cute little BUG.

You may want to give Doug at Bear Creek a call if you still want to pursue back pocket carry. My Seecamp rides in one of his back pocket holsters, and it can be converted to a front pocket holster with a screw driver. Really nice stuff from a Texas craftsman.

Wrangler jeans have bigger/longer back pockets. Pockets are different with brands and styles. What may work in one pair of pants, may not work in another pair. Make a piece of cardboard the size of the back panel of your holster. Or if you want to buy one (a holster), find out the size from the holster maker.

Then take that piece of cardboard shopping with you for pants or jeans. Ideally you want the cardboard 3/4 t 1 inch lower than the top of the pocket as the holstered gun will be thicker than the cardboard. If the card board comes near the top of the pocket, it will look like the one pictured fom the OP and will can be seen at the top of the open pocket looking down.

You could also buy a longer t-shirt or loose shirt to help cover the top of the pocket. Tucked shirts obviously won't help.

The Seecamps are so small they seem to work in any pocket.

Part of what got me to order the Talon to begin with was I had seen a video posted by Talon that said this fit in Levi 501's. I wear Levis and usually tuck shirts. An untucked shirt certainly covers the issue.

At this point, I'm a little skeptical of any of these holsters for my jeans since looking at the Talon, it's cut pretty close to the edges of the LCP, making a rectangle that fits the outer dimensions of the pistol. One thing that may help would be thinner leather, specially since one of the things Talon does is cover both sides of the LCP, even without the big panel, so you en up with a double thickness.

I did use it once over the weekend. I'm also using a simple Galco Tuck-N-Go that is actually not bad. It just doesn't do what i wanted from the wallet style, letting me easily put on and take off in the car.
