Red, White and Bayou - "No Weapons (even concealed)"
Dickinson is hosting a one day crawfish festival today - http://www.redwhiteandbayou.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. On the website, it says the event is organized and sponsored by the City of Dickinson and other Dickinson government entities. The website says "No Weapons (even concealed)". We all know with "Pre-Emption" that local government entities (city and county) cannot post 30.06 signs. How can a festival operated by a City prohibit Concealed Handgun Licensees from entering the event? Charles?

I am not Charles, but they cannot prevent it, without 30.06 signs, and even then, on city property, it should be invalid.

Probably the same way they did with Mardi Gras in Galveston.bestshotrange wrote:How can a festival operated by a City prohibit Concealed Handgun Licensees from entering the event?
If they have metal detectors, they can tell you you are not allowed to enter. What are you going to do then? That is a serious question, not a glib comment.
I had this problem. I tried to get to the root of it afterward, but the city manager was fired, and it will be back to square 1 next year.

The city manager was fired...hmmm. I wonder if the policy for Mardi Gras had anything to do with it. Hope so.seamusTX wrote:Probably the same way they did with Mardi Gras in Galveston.bestshotrange wrote:How can a festival operated by a City prohibit Concealed Handgun Licensees from entering the event?

Turn around and go somewhere safer. On the other hand if no metal detectors we can attend.seamusTX wrote:If they have metal detectors, they can tell you you are not allowed to enter. What are you going to do then? That is a serious question, not a glib comment.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

The City of Allen did not post their streets when they held their Octoberfest Festival. I carried and there was beer everywhere that day. The police were all over and no one asked to search anyone. I wasn't even carded when I went to get my wife a beer. They might have actually made more than 51% of their profits that day from beer.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Or turn around and find another way to get in. If I remember the original post about the Galveston event, there were a number of people who went in different entrances and weren't searched. For an outdoor event on city streets it's hard, but not impossible, to search everyone. So it doesn't happen very often.

No. The reasons were all political.austin-tatious wrote:The city manager was fired...hmmm. I wonder if the policy for Mardi Gras had anything to do with it.

I showed my CHL at Mardi Gras and they waved the whole group with me thru. Out of town cop wanted to stop me but the ticket guy said they had to let me in.seamusTX wrote:Probably the same way they did with Mardi Gras in Galveston.bestshotrange wrote:How can a festival operated by a City prohibit Concealed Handgun Licensees from entering the event?

I know. It depended upon who was working the gate.
The policy had been posted that CHL holders and other licensed individuals could carry weapons, but it did not get around to all the security personnel or out-of-town LEOs who were working there.
Pretty much every publicly-sponsored festival is going to have this problem.

If no 30.06 or 51% signs, concealed is concealed. I don't know about you but crowds make me nervous. Bad things can happen.
