I hate the MSM

If you read this article, you'd think having a gun in your car at a school parking lot was illegal.
Seriously, why isn't there one educated person on the subject working anywhere in the media? Fox isn't any better.

And, it doesn't exempt the refineries, just got to have a CHL. Typical media getting only part of it right. One of our local stations in Dallas reported that SB 321 was on the way to the Governors desk this morning after the House had approved it (Senate still hadn't.)Scott in Houston wrote:http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?secti ... id=8157602

It is my understanding that unless you have a CHL, it IS illegal to have a gun in a school parking lot, as that would be within 1000 feet of a school. This is per Federal law.

The media puts out bogus and confusing info on purpose. It may not be the reporter but an editor that cuts the story up but I think most of the misinformation is done to confuse people so our opposition can use it. The only tools anti-rights types have are ignorance and fear. We can beat them if we are willing to tell people the truth and show them the facts.

This is true. And it's not just any CHL. To be exempt from the Federal Gun Free Schools law it has to be a CHL from the state where the school is located. So, if you're traveling out of state, you better not drive within 1000 feet of a schoolDivided Attention wrote:It is my understanding that unless you have a CHL, it IS illegal to have a gun in a school parking lot, as that would be within 1000 feet of a school. Re: I hate the MSM
Well parents drop their kids off all the time with guns in the car in the morning, is that illegal without a CHL? I honestly don't know I have had a CHL since my early 20s and don't recall what the state law is for non-chl holders.GUN Free Zones: You are talking about Federal Laws and local law enforcement does not enforce it. Is there a state law that says you can't bring a gun into a school parking lot without a CHL? Those gun free zone signs are scare tactics more then anything. In fact aren't they a 1000 feet within a school? Can someone site a case where charges where filed against a person in Texas for getting pulled over within this gun free zone and having a gun in their car without a CHL? Unless it is federal law enforcement I don't think you will find a case. The only way I could see a local law enforcement officer enforcing this law is to tack on something else after the fact. Meaning you committed a crime greater then a traffic violation within this gun free zone. So many schools are on major roads it would be a joke to enforce this law.
Just one more reason to get your CHL. Don't have to worry about it.

Re: I hate the MSM
I wouldn't be surprised if for every CHL holder in Texas there was three people who carry a gun in their car on a permanent basis. I personally know five people that I can think of off the top of my head who carry in their car 24/7 but don't have a CHL. Four are women and one is a man. All four women carry a snub nose .38 in their glove box or center console. Many people are comfortable carrying in their car but for whatever personal reasons never take the next logical step in personal safety and get their CHL. All five of these people are not avid firearm shooters and I wouldn't be surprised if they bought the gun, shot it once and then left it in the car. My point is if they enforced this law we would have heard about it by now.
