I wanna a 1911

Post by 13MWZ »

I have recently decided I want a 1911. I owned a Kimber for a couple months a while back. I had just returned from over seas and decided a little combat pay would go twards a "nice" firearm. I had messed up my trigger finger while I was there (dang near lost it) and the .45 was too much for my still healing finger. So I sold it with about 15 rouunds through the tube.

Couple years go by and now the bug bites again. But I dont want to spend $1K+. Heck I hardly want to spend $600.

I'd like some sugestions for a good starter 1911. I've been told Rock Island is okay and under $500, Of course Springfield GI for under $600. What other options are there.

Is there anything about any of the brands that would prevent me from building off of it once I get the hang of the whole 1911 thing?

This would be mostly just for fun at the range.

If you go with the Rock Island, get the tactical with the decent sights. I have a 2 Rock Islands with the GI sights and the sights are the only thing I'd change on either gun.

I agree with the Rock Island. I have the tactical "match" version and I love it. The thing is far more accurate than I am
and SO much fun to shoot.

rereading my post, I need to clarify. I do LOVE my rocks. They are reliable, accurate, and reasonably priced. Even with the minimal GI sights, I can ping targets comfortably from any range I've had a chance to shoot at. I just think it'd be easier to hit bullseyes with improved sights. ;-)

Right now, the go-to 1911's seem to be the Rugers....the integral plunger tube makes it a cinch for me....

Here's a good place to start looking at Rock Islands.

ATI, RIA or Armscor from a Davidson's dealer (you get a lifetime warranty). These 1911's are the best build and quality for the money.

In that instance, it would be ok to call it a clip.

You know, if it goes bang, and you like it...get it...

Most manufacturers of the 1911 style do a pretty good job of getting out a good product...I would never turn down the keys to a high end, custom, type models...But its up to they individual to decide how much money they want to spend...I'd decide that first and go from there...Don't compramise and spend too much on your first dance...

I went with a standard Springfield, A1, and after a little tweeking, my wife stole that gun from me...So, in response, I bought another one for me...Thats just the plain cruel rules of married life brother...It happens...And things like this come in pairs, so be prepared... :thumbs2: :smilelol5: "rlol" ;-)

Rock Island...I got one earlier this year and love it. Even with the GI sites.
