Purchasing a shotgun in Louisiana

Post by Kirk »

My son is living in Baton Rouge for college and wants to buy a shotgun there but is unsure if he can since his DL is Texas. I know he should just ask at the gun store but.. :banghead:

Any suggestions?

Thanks

He can purchase a long gun in a contiguous state, but not a handgun. So, should be good to go.

That does not mean that he won't encounter a less than informed person at a gun store, who might tell him otherwise.

If your son has no luck in Baton Rouge tell him to try GATOR GUNS in Sulphur. Richard sells a lot of long guns to Texans who pass NICS.

Aren't the "sons of gun" people in BR? Would be neat just to go drop in and check them out.

A resident from another state can legally (under federal law) buy a long gun (no pistols) from an FFL in another state so long as the state laws for both states are observed. There is no contiguous state requirement in federal law. There is an adjoining state clause in a few state's laws, but I am not sure if it exists in Texas or Louisiana law.

He's good to go with buying a shotgun/rifle over there. But if he buys from a private seller he has to go thru a FFL. I'm buying a Saiga 308 from BR this wknd myself. Have him check out Bayoushooters.com

Texas has no contiguous clause, as I have purchased rifles in Arizona. Another bit of info if you have a Arizona CCW(resident or not), you get the bonus of no NICS calls as we enjoy here in Texas.
