Heads-up for Renewals

Post by speedsix »

...got my renewal letter talking all about on-line renewal only...
...went to renewal class Saturday...instructor said he could no longer give out paper renewal applications for those who needed to mail in a check or money order or otherwise couldn't do it online...we could just print off the application on-line and mail it in...

...tried to do that today after purchasing the money order...there is none to be printed off...printed off every page of the online one and then called DPS...they said, no, that wouldn't get it...they had to mail me a proper paper application and a return envelope...7-10 days wait...
...found an online DPS site that says the option for paper renewal is explained in the renewal letter sent out...it is not...

...if you're running close...call the CHL offices and request a paper renewal app. be mailed to you before you take your class...you should have it in time to fire everything off after class...both the letter and the website information are wrong, where paper applications are concerned...

...question...I'm 62...asked the lady at class handling paperwork what the renewal fee is and she said $70...which is half of the 140 for the original CHL...OK...something bugged me when I went for the MO...I called the Academy again and asked a guy...he told me $35...that a regular no-discount renewal is $70...can't find the fees on paper or online...is $35 the right answer for a 62-year-old??? (I have another whole week to get it right now)

My situation was that I would turn 60 on the first day of the new license. I posted here and DPS told Charles that the automated system would correctly adjust the price.

Needless to say, it did not. When I called and requested the paper application, it arrived with every blank filled in including the $35 fee.

I assumed my issue was due to me still being 59 at time of application. Maybe they'll have it corrected by when I turn 65.
