So Texans--is Perry Running?

Post by mamabearCali »

Perry is beating out Romney in polls in my state (VA). :txflag: One problem--has he said he is running yet? Needs to get a move on!

I agree...but he needs to resign as governor first though. Fiscally speaking, he can't do any worse than Obama, because he's a big spender too. I don't trust anyone who is in the Bilderburg society. I guarantee that Perry doesn't have the moxy to cut medicare, military and social security. He won't take on the democrats for a flat tax overhaul of IRS, and he probably won't fight for the repeal of Obamacare (remember the Guardasil debacle...he thinks government knows best).

My hope is that he resigns, runs, and gets his tail kicked by a true conservative like Bachman.

Who knows? It seems to me that the GOP is bent on self-destruction. They can't even get out of each other's way, let alone lead the way.

I bet we'll hear something after his 'prayer day,' or whatever it's called, on the 6th. Who is paying for that thing, anyway?

The American Family Association is paying for the event – no public money is involved.

Yes, he's planning to make a run at it. He's already (discretely) putting together a campaign committee.

Frankly, I wish he wouldn't. Though I supported him as Gov I could not, in good conscience, vote for him as Commander in Chief (especially not while my son wears the uniform). Honestly, I just don't think he could or would win a presidential election.

Since elections end up trying to pick the worst of 2 evils, how much worse could Perry do to this country as compared to the current administration? Personally I do not want to find out how much more damage Obama can do to this country, for a person who made many claims to be laser focused on jobs, the economy etc he has yet to be a true leader and come up with any plan that did not require massive amounts of spending money that we don't have. His Job Czar has been exporting jobs to China and recently announced that GE will be sending all their xray engineering and manufacturing over there, soon as that announcement was released Obama should have fired him. WE need true leadership in Washington and somebody who other countrys will respect. Although I am in no way a big Perry fan I would welcome him and donate to his campaign if he received the nomination..... no more hope and chains................

I have to say that I am Anyone but Obama. I don't think this country can take another 4 years of Obama, Holder, Nepolitano..... Do I LOVE any of the candiadates--nope they all have their warts. But anyone of them even (gag) Romney is better than another 4 years of Obama.

Perry is a interesting mixed bag. I have not liked what he has done in various situations (Gardisil). But he is a states rights guy and is decently pro2A, seems to be a decent American, and won't make it the first priority of his office to go around the world apologizing for being an American. He would likely try to keep taxes low, and might try to reduce the footprint of the federal gov't on our backsides.

By the time the primaries get to us (in VA) we have limited choices so if it is between Perry, and Romney at that time I know which way I am going to go. If it is between Perry and Bachmann--I would have to really consider things. They both have their warts, but we will just have to see what happens.

Our governor was originally a democrat. I have huge issues with the Trans Texas Corridor and the Guardasil debacle but I do not believe that was a "government knows best" philosophy but something much more base than that.

With all of that, I am a 2 issue voter. Do not try to take away my God given right to defend myself and do not try to usurp the stewardship of my children given by God (I.E. home education). He has been a staunch defender and proponent of 2A rights and every pro-homeschool bill that has crossed his desk, he signed without delay. If he runs, he's likely got my vote.

Regarding Romney, I disagree. If we're going to put up a RINO who passed a bill like Romneycare, and supported the AWB, we might as well just let a democrat be in charge so they can take the blame. Same policies, but with an R by his name? No thank you.

That being said, if there is someone who isn't quite as libertarian as me, but is willing to draw very clear distinctions between that the dems have been doing and what he or she will do, they'll get my vote. But if we're going to govern like democrat lite, might as well just let the dems have it and focus on electing real conservatives into the House and Senate.

Romney's quote about the AWB (and by extension, his stance on the 2A in general..that he's willing to shift the goal posts if the poll numbers line up right)
I would have supported the original assault weapon ban. I signed an assault weapon ban in Massachusetts governor because it provided for a relaxation of licensing requirements for gun owners in Massachusetts, which was a big plus. And so both the pro-gun and the anti-gun lobby came together with a bill, and I signed that. And if there is determined to be, from time to time, a weapon of such lethality that it poses a grave risk to our law enforcement personnel, that’s something I would consider signing. There’s nothing of that nature that’s being proposed today in Washington. But I would look at weapons that pose extraordinary lethality.

Be careful, that "anyone but Bush" attitude got us Kerry and four more years of Bush...

...once again, we're faced with choosing the least wrong answer...not voting at all in protest or voting for someone we know has no chance to win because we believe in what they stand for isn't smart this time...throwaway votes historically help the opposition...

...of the two who have the best chance of winning...who will hurt us the least....that'll be my choice...it's not supposed to be this way, but where are the statesmen??? where are the patriots???God help us all... :patriot:
