Concealed info needed

New CHLee and new to concealed carrying.

I've been reading with a vengance many, many posts discussing the different types, styles and materials for IWB carrying.
I've gone through my wardrobe and figured out which shirts will work and which ones are questionable.

I'm a Ruger fan and have just about decided on an SR9c as my weapon of choice.

The data I haven't seen discussed is the best option for some one, like me, who is carrying 30 lbs too much weight.
I understand that losing the weight opens up options and I am trending in that direction.

But for now, how are you folks who are big, carrying?
Small of the back? Hip? Calf? Shoulder? Specialized shirts?

the "rollover" part of the "love handles" can help conceal the top of the butt of the pistol grip ( I carry at 3:00 )

Thin or heavier people both can conceal,

Proper belt and holster and angle/cant of the holster ...

Extra long (X Tall) shirts a size larger if needed

2 layers of material like a T shirt and a shirt conceal much better

Most any round bottomed loose shirt

I got started with the ones I showed because I inherited a closet full, tried one and it was so comfortable and found that stuffiing the two bottom pockets with Kleenexes added extra bumps and lumps near the belt line and people didn't stare at my Kleenex areas for very long

I actually wear the shirt unbuttoned ( or unzipped with the zippered ones) and have my T shirt show to the front
The gun being on my side, is still covered by 2 layers, T shirt and top shirt, but it's easy to access

The main thing is "loose and long" (Tall)

I donated all my old "Tapered" shirts to Goodwill after I got my "Reverse taper"



Each and Every photo I posted above has "bumps" no one notices, no one cares what any "bumps" are ... I don't know if any of the above are armed ... they could be.

Last year, I discovered something called a "resort shirt" at Academy and bought a couple of them. This year, Kohl's and a couple of other stores had the same thing. They have a long enough tail that there is no way for you to get your hands high enough to expose anything. The bottom is open enough to be pulled quickly up for a draw. And there isn't even a hint of printing on me.

Trust me - I could drop 30 lbs and still be North of my BMI.

Yep, I'm overweight and I carry a 5" 1911 and people never know it is there. I use IWB and wear an underarmor t-shirt type (you can find UnderArmor look alikes sold at WalMart, Academy, Target etc.) as a base layer and then a shirt with the tails untucked. Get used to wearing all your shirts untucked. On the occasions you want a shirt tucked in buy a smartcarry holster and make sure you have loose fitting pants.

My personal experience was that it took several months of trying different methods (and I've tried them all) to find what works best for me. Although I carry a 1911 OWB @ 3oclock on many occasions, I have found that pocket-carrying a snubby is the most comfortable and practical way for me to stay armed all of the time.

I'm pretty much brand new to carrying, as well, and reading like a madman myself, every chance I get. I've collected a few handguns over the years, most of which I will be using, contingent upon the situation. I've not decided on a holster yet, but am leaning toward the CrossBreed SuperTuck for my Sig P229, as those holsters have been getting screaming reviews. We'll see...

One of the guns I own is the Ruger LCP which I carry full time front pocket in an Uncle Mike's #1, thanks to the advice of RAM4171, a good friend. Much like USA1 wrote, I am taking my time, but have something in the meanwhile to where I am always armed.

For those of you who have "tried them all" is there a "pay it forward" kind of thing so that not everyone has a stack of unused holsters? I can see me having a stack of unused or not needed pieces thrown in a box on the bottom shelf.

I moderate an auto racing site and as a racer, I have shelves full of parts that are perfectly good, have a niche market, have very little value and I'll never use.
So I started a "Pay it Forward" section that allows me and others to offer these kinds of things to others in need.

Rules are simple ... no sales price and the buyer has to cover all the cost of shipping.
You post a need or you post a part(s).

I have to tell you ... it has worked out rather well.

Would something like that work here?

I'd highly recommend the 5.11 Tactical shorts. I can carry my primiary pistol and my bug including extra ammo with no problem. Carrying IWB is not a problem since they have the spandex-like waistband. This is important when I eat out. I do not like my shorts tight. I already have one set and I just ordered another set from optics planet for $39.99 + free shipping. Cabelas also has them for the same price but their selection is very limited and you have to pay tax.

I also wear casual button up short sleeve shirts untucked normally one-size larger. Hope this helps.
