WalMart... obvious sign

Post by Soldiernurse »

:rules:
As the wife & I were coming up on the entrance had to stop dead in my tracks. Sign read something like unlicensed gun holders not allowed... etc. Thinking to myself why post the obvious? Maybe to warn unlicensed weapon carry criminals.

Anyway, I must have looked inside my wallet (for my CHL) at least twice. Of course, had my CHL... just paranoid I guess. First time to Wally World wearing my kangaroo / PPS 9mm. IMHO, for the price its an awesome shoulder holster. Sorry, no Wally walk pics taken.

I believe anywhere that sells alcohol for off site consumption MUST post that blue sign. Its the red sign we have to watch out for. Good description of different signage and its impact on CHL holders here: http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=34571

I've had that same chuckle passing that sign.

I imagine most people read "licensed" as "cop", if they bother to read it at all.

Either way, after a little more research, a little elaboration of my previous thought. If a place sells alcohol, either for on site or off site consumption, TABC requires them to post a sign. The blue sign about unlicensed possession if they make less than 51% of revenue from on site alcohol consumption (Grocery stores, restaurants, wal marts, the like) and a red "51%" sign if they make most of their revenue from on premises consumption. (bars).

Just a little elaboration for anyone else reading wondering what the heck a blue sign is put up for. :tiphat:

You need to put it right under your "No Soliciting" sign...

I remember seeing those signs in the WalMarts around me even before they could sell beer and wine.

I always liked seeing them, too, but still got a little chuckle. Like anyone without a license cared about that sign.

Speaking of signs, could ya'll kindly answer this?

I have only carried for a few weeks and have an LCP in front pocket mostly during work. I'm mobile and enter through a bunch of loading docks. Today I entered a building through the dock with absolutely zero signage. I checked out my job and exited the building, via main entrance, to retrieve my tools. They had 30.06 (although it was frosted letters on clear glass, which I would not have seen, had I not been looking for it) posted at entry.

If it is not posted at dock entry, but is at main entry, is it a no-carry situation? I thought to be legal, they had to post at everyentry.

Thank you in advance for your insight.

No, no requirement to post at every entry. I would argue that there should be one at the dock since some people only enter the store from that entry point, but my argument could probably be defeated.

Not to highjack but, to be legally enforceable the sign must contain letters no less than 1" high be of contrasting colors be in English and Spanish and have correct wording. From your description "frosted" vinyl on clear glass is not contrasting. Concealed means concealed. Don't break any laws and I'll see you at the gun show shortly. :cheers2:

I don't think anyone brought up 30.06 (pertaining to CHL's), just the sign that stores that sell booze not for on premises consumption have to post warning that unlicensed carry becomes a felony when they walk in that store.

Correct. They have to post because unlicensed carry is a felony vs. misdemeanor when they walk through the door.

As if someone illegally carrying is going to stop and reconsider.
