Recruit turns Baylor down for...ugly colors?

Post by DONT TREAD ON ME »

That and their affiliation with Adidas and not Nike
"Coach Scott Drew is a great guy. I love Coach Drew. They were one of the first schools that were recruiting me. But I didn't like that they were an adidas team, but that's not to say I wouldn't go to Kansas because Kansas is a great team. I can look over the adidas thing — I own some adidas stuff. [Goodwin played recent summers with the Arkansas Wings Elite team, which is sponsored by Nike] I didn't like their colors, either. I don't like green and gold. That's ugly …. When you got ugly colors like that, you gotta be Nike. …. Baylor has some ugly shoes, too."
Full story here. Some of the comments are not appropriate for this forum so consider yourselves warned.

While the article states that his comments were "refreshing" I have to disagree. These comments were nothing more than immature. He just proved to the nation that he is after nothing more than looking "good" and brand names. He could care less about team or an education. If I were a recruiter or a coach I would NOT want him nor anyone else like him on my team regardless of talent. Fortunately for him there are many out there that could also care less about team and would want a selfish player such as this on their team :banghead:

Played college ball. Have to say not surprised many young players have overblown egos from to many pats on the back and I blame the people around them (and society they grew up in) not them for that and have to kinda agree with both you and the article. Sadly honesty is rare enough that it is refreshing nowadays. But its also sad the people have become this petty an I think they arebetter off without him on the team.

I dunno for sure, but...

If I were related to Michael Jordan, I'd pick and chose a school that used his brand.

I don't like (LSU) purple either.

He was being recruited to play a game. He's plenty mature for that.
When in doubt

Anyone turning down Baylor for any reason is too stupid to live. :)

The peanut gallery is happy. The recruit is happy. What's the controversy?
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

LOL. I worked my way through my degrees. It never occurred to me that one might decline a full-ride scholarship based on the colors of some sneakers.

Go figure.

When you're being recruited by 8-10 schools, you have to narrow down the field somehow.
i.e. it's not about turning down a full-ride; it's about deciding which full-ride to accept.

Ain't it ironic?
