Primers wont seat at random

Post by thatguy »

I have a new Dillon 650 and am new to reloading. Some times the primers wont seat all the way in the case. The machine is new so very little debris has built up and I am making sure to push the roller handle thru the whole cycle. Ideas?

Are these commercial cases or military cases? Range pickup? Military brass has a crimp that will hinder or prevent re-priming until it is removed. Some commercial brass has slightly tighter primer pockets than others S&B brass is noted for this. What I do with my military brass and any large lot of S&B is take my neck chamfering tool and put a bevel on the edge of the primer pocket to facilitate ease of priming.

cases with crimp can be a problem. but also so can the primers. I've found wolf primers to be exceptionally hard and sometimes have issues esp with those cases with tight pockets. I don't buy wolf's anymore.

Also I've found in .45 ACP that some commercial reuse brass (range pickups) have primer pockets sized for small primers instead of customary large primers - primarily Blazer brass, but also certain lots of Federal brass.
