Yep. Manufacturing and record-keeping issues aside, it's just going to lead to people stealing ammo. And maybe even replacing it with other ammo so they can frame someone else.

This idea is not new. I recall that it started in California (?).

The company that has the technology tried to get it pushed through somewhere but as of yet they have got no traction anywhere.

I think it was micro etched on the base of the bullet

Well, I guess I'll make sure to embed bar codes on all my bullet molds so I can voluntarily comply with the law.

Trace it to the purchasor ... sure
Will see in the want-ads/Greensheet

"2 boxes of .38 special, will trade for 2 boxes of .38 Special"

And 2 people then have ammo "traceable" to the original owners who'll say .... I traded it to some guy Sheesh I dunno it was a tall short fat skinny guy with hair who was balding and had a mustache before he shaved it....
