FYI Veterans

Post by stash »

For anyone who might be interested, I learned yesterday that during the last session HB1514 (an act) was passed and went into effect 9/1/11. This bill allows veterans to have a veteran designation printed on their TDL. According to the Reps office who filed the bill, it would allow veterans to more easily prove their veteran status when asked for proof of military service in order to be eligible for certain discounts and benefits. According to the Reps. office the DPS is currently doing the computer stuff they have to do to implement the act and hope to have it ready early next year. I would probably never have to prove my veteran status but this is a nice touch and I will do it if it is ready by the time my next renewal (3/12) comes around.

The true-test of the merit of this bill would be:

Will the River-walk boat-rides in San Antonio give me a veterans discount by showing a TDL with this designation?

If not, then I have absolutely no use for it.

LOL! You still do that? After 1.5 times, I was ready to jump off and run away. Drives me nuts when I have visitors from out of state. "Oh, let's go to the Riverwalk!" :banghead:

This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so.
