U.S. Rep Jackson Lee proposed HR 822 amendment

Post by LSL »

Seen today on NRA website: On, 16 Nov. 11, on the House floor, U.S. Rep. Jackson Lee proposed an amendment to HR 822 - National Right to Carry ReciprocityAct of 2011 - to create a national database of concealed carry permit holders. I have not read any posting on this site commenting or discussing the representative's floor proposal.

Her arguments were based upon a "child getting an inocculation" wincing at the prick of the needle AND, that in 2008, a Houston-area LEO who, on a traffic stop, was killed with a "taken gun" [BTW- she did not fully disclose the fact -- it his own weapon].

Not to politicize -- but, legislators who, using faulty logic and absence of reasoning, stir up emotions to evoke action from an equally uninformed populus do not serve their constituents.

Two choices -- [1] educate and provide facts, tp prevent further "OMG! what-ifs"; or [2] generate a grass-roots campaign, based upon fact and reason, to vote out such elected officials as the earliest opportunity.

Thankfully the proposed amendment was defeated handily.
Un-thankfully (my own word), the bill stands little chance of reaching the presidents desk or getting his signature.

It was not only defeated, but more or less simulataneously the House and the Senate passed, and the Prez signed, a law permanently forbidding the Feds from establishing a national database or registry of guns or gun owners (not just CHL people). This will take effect regardless of whether 822 passes or not.

Somebody in the Houston area keeps electing her and that is the problem.

My understanding is that her district is gerrymandered so heavily that the ONLY way to get rid of her is for another black democrat to defeat her in the primary.

My thoughts on anything done by that woman will remain unknown...because the language I use to describe them would get me banned. :mad5 :banghead:

The good news is that nobody not even the Democrats in the House take Silly Jackson Lee seriously.

The database idea has been proposed. Now others like that New Yorker will start pushing it. We need someone to do an amendment to the no gun registration law to include CHL’s

There is already a law forbidding the feds from establishing a registry of guns or gun-owners. That would seem to include CHL'ers as well.

I bet that would change if they had to pay $140, pass a class and pass a background check before they can vote. It's true voting is a constitutional right, but so is carrying a gun. If it's reasonable to impose restrictions on ANY constitutional rights, then it's reasonable to impose restrictions on ALL constitutional rights.

I'd say the absence of common-sense regulation of voting rights is more dangerous to the country than insufficient gun regulations.

Chicago politics is absolute proof of that!
