List of real examples where students/teachers use guns

Post by McKnife »

I recall a lengthy list of real examples where students and/or faculty used firearms to stop or prevent a crime from being committed on or close to campus. i.e. Professors shooting at Charles Whitman.

I've searched high and low with no results. Can someone help me out?

not a list I know of yet, kinda rare where law abiding people aren't allowed to possess one on school property ... but

Google Yitzhak Dadon
One of the students, Yitzhak Dadon, reportedly shot the gunman twice before he was finally killed by an off-duty Israeli army officer, who had gone to the school after hearing gunfire.

"I shot him twice in the head," he told the Reuters news agency.

"He started to sway and then someone else with a rifle fired at him, and he died."

and maybe there is a list/database as this article mentions ... "a sound and proven track record in other countries"
s reported in a Spring 2008 diginetXpress article, Representative Frank Lasee of Wisconsin first proposed an idea, based on a sound and proven track record in other countries, of allowing American school staff to carry concealed firearms in response to school shooting incidents and the threat of terrorism. Israel, a leading world authority in matters of defensive strategies, has seen much success in arming teachers to protect students against Palestinian terrorists with Thailand more recently following suit. Representative David Agema of Michigan has proposed parallel legislation.

Groups such as the NRA or http://www.ccrkba.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or John Lott (John will answer an e-mail quicker than a tweet) might know where to find such a list, if they have not compiled one already they could send to you ... and if they haven't, maybe they'll get the idea to do it. ;-)

with all the research various people do, there ought to be such a list

In late May 2002, an Israeli teacher shot a suicide terrorist before he could harm anyone.

list of school shootings that occurred in 1997-98
two of these shootings were stopped by law-abiding citizens using guns long before the police arrived on the scene.

An assistant principal in Mississippi, for example, used his own handgun to stop a student from shooting other students. The principal then, with his gun, held the shooter to the ground for five minutes until the police arrived.

I'd bet that most defensive use of gun stats at schools would be from other countries ... where law abiding people are allowed to have the proper tools at school.

But, he does collect some stats and events others don't ... even though his position is wrong. (Motive: he gets paid to be a consultant advising/giving seminars/training on school safety to the schools, who want to believe a law or sign stops a gun from going past this point ...)

Are you looking for a.list for any particular reason or just researching for personal interest? I don't have a list at hand, but if you have any project going feel free to pm and I'll get something for you.

I am trying to find as many examples, from micro or macro views, where more guns equal less crime. John Lott is where I've started, but I am looking for as many examples of students/teachers using weapons on or near campus that prevented, deterred or stopped a crime, either before, during or after commission. University crime stat's don't include 'near' campus crimes for a reason.

Thanks to all of your for any and all of your answers. Keep 'em coming!

Think of it this way: if you were speaking to a room full of liberal Godless Obama worshipers, how would you prove more guns equals less crime? :bigear:

Joel Myrick - Pearl, Mississippi

However, assistant principal Joel Myrick had retrieved a .45 pistol from the glove compartment of his truck and subdued Woodham inside his mother's car. Then Myrick demanded "Why did you shoot my kids?" to which Woodham replied, "Life has wronged me, sir."
