small primers in 45ACP

Post by ghostrider »

It looks like more manufacturers are using small pistol primers in 45 ACP:

Yeah, when it first started happening, I simply took a pair of pliers and crushed the case so I wouldn't get it mixed in.

Now I've collected enough that I have a second bag of 1000 or so small primer .45 cases. Now that is enough switch to my small primer setup and run them through the press . . .

If I ever go to an event where I don't intend to pick up my brass, I guess I'd leave the small primer stuff behind. (not that I could envision an event where I wouldn't want my brass....)

Man, if you get one mixed in and try putting a large primer in the small primer hole, it ain't pretty. Gives a new emphasis to the phrase, "don't force it".

I have been loading small primer brass from Federal. I had saved about a thousand before I realized it. I sat down and seperated out all the large primer stuff and the small primer stuff. It really isn't that big of a deal....like you said ...unless you force it. Actually I have only had one wrong cull so far and luckily it was a large case trying to receive a small primer. No tension/pressure at all. LOL Go figure. At least it wasn't the other way around or I would have gottten a bang out of it. "rlol"
Carry safe and carry when and where you can. I'm just sayin'.
