Who's the best pro-gun Texas legislator?
Who is the absolute best Texas legislator to propose and push through a small modification to the Texas Penal Code regarding the use of firearms in self defense? Jerry Patterson?

Not exactly sure of what you are asking. Are you looking for recommendations for upcoming elections or those currently in office that would still more than likely be there next session?
Bottom line, one person is NOT going to make a major difference. It takes a majority of those in the Texas Legislature to get any bill through. We currently have some really wonderful supporters in office and have made great strides in regaining our 2A rights. Those that sponsored and co-sponsored pro-firearms bills this past session are one that I would want to see stay in place.
As for Jerry, he is running for Lt. Governor in 2014, but today he the Land Commissioner and not legislator. And, while he is VERY pro-CHL, as I said, he alone would not be able to do it.

What change do you have in mind?Ruark wrote:Who is the absolute best Texas legislator to propose and push through a small modification to the Texas Penal Code regarding the use of firearms in self defense? Jerry Patterson?

I wouldn't start with a State Rep or Senator.Ruark wrote:Who is the absolute best Texas legislator to propose and push through a small modification to the Texas Penal Code regarding the use of firearms in self defense? Jerry Patterson?
I would start at grass root. See if you can polish your suggestion and get some help writing it.
Getting the most gun friendly Rep might not be the best choice to introduce a bill either. The ideal rep just might be some one who isn't a RKBA crusader, but is enthusiastic about your bill. Some one who is on the right commitees, and is respected. If your own rep is opened to your idea he will more likely give you an ear.
If I had an issue that I wanted to push forward as bill. I would seek a listening ear from someone.
1: That is dedicated to to firearms issues.
2: That has written bills that have passed through successfully
3: That is respected by our legislators and the community.
4: and is willing to pass on good advice if he won't/can't take up your cause.
It isn't my place to out this guy, but he isn't a State Rep. but it shouldn't be hard to figure out.

You know, Mr. Cotton, I really don't want to get sidetracked into a political discussion here. On forums like this, I know people mean well, but no matter what you post, there will be howls of disagreement, then you get bogged down in post after post after post of debate, analysis and discussion ("what I meant was..."). You know the drill. I might bring it up as another topic; right now I'm kinda undecided as to whether or not to get into it here. Basically it regards just adding another short paragraph (a single sentence, actually) that clarifies and expands the language in PC 9 pertaining to deadly force.Charles L. As far as legislators, I worked in the state government (actually, a couple of blocks from the Capitol Building) for many years, and am fully aware of how the process works. What I'm asking for is not somebody that can get a bill passed - no single person can do that - but somebody who can sponsor and introduce a bill and support it as it goes through the legislative process.
That may be a good point about it not being a person with an established reputation for being a pro-gun crusader. He might be disregarded: "oh, there he goes again."
