How long to expect?

Post by guntotinpreacher »

I am new to the whole CHL thing as I recently turned 21, but had been planning to get my CHL for some time. Got everything ready, filed the online stuff January 8 (1 day after my birthday since the state won't accept your application on your 21st birthday for some weird reason), fingerprinted January 10, and mailed my paperwork January 11 (was in Austin in 2 days). My background check has been "under review" with all the other stuff before it good to go for almost 2 weeks (I have a spotless background, so not expecting any delays there). Have been waiting since then and I was wondering, about how long should I expect to wait? Any suggestions on making the wait time seem to pass faster?

I'm all ears for input! :bigear:

You should have your plastic sometime next month - congrats for getting one as soon as possible :thumbs2: . In the meantime start carrying around your house - it takes a while to get the right holster and carry position figured out. If you carry IWB and with a larger handgun, you might need to buy a size larger pants and belts. I settled on a Galco KingTuk at 3:30 to 4 o'clock for the M&P, but I have to wear a size larger waist in my trousers.

Thanks! I have been practicing some around the house. I have settled for the time being on a Ruger LCP and a pocket holster. Hoping to save up and buy a bigger gun later on, but for now going with something I can carry without looser clothing, other costly changes, etc. (preachers don't draw big paychecks!).

Welcome to the forum! I hope your wait for your plastic is not a long one. Lots of good info and people on this site, so that should help with questions you might have.

I also have a Ruger LCP in a pocket holster. Very discreet little guns!

I'd love to have an LCP - Rugers are very affordable and well made, we've been extremely happy with our SR40 (dear wife likes it so much I think it is now a permanent family member.) Congratulations on your ministry choice!
