Holster review-Wilson Combat

Post by mbw »

My Milt Sparks Summer Special is over 10 years old and is pretty worn. I carry a full sized steel 1911 and have been very pleased with both the design and quality of Milt Sparks products, they are among the best available. Problem is the wait time in order to get a new one.

I looked at every source that I could find on the net and finally settled on Wilson Combat. They have an almost duplicate copy of the Spark’s Summer Special 2, with the added shield that covers the safety that the original Summer Special does not have. So I ordered one with Shark trim.

I have worn the holster daily now for 3 months and I can say that it beats my expectations. The quality is maybe just a little below that of Sparks, who isn’t, but is still extremely high quality. The fit is close to perfect and completely hides the pistol under a T shirt, Polo, or Hawaiian short.

I don’t know if Wilson actually makes their holsters and leather goods, but whoever is making them are making top quality goods. They aren’t cheap but neither are they overly expensive- $79 to $159 over the whole line. They offer Shark as well as Elephant for more money.

If you need to support a full sized steel pistol and don’t want to wait on a Sparks or other custom maker, take a look.

I actually bought 2 holsters from Wilson; here is the other one-

It is a high ride pancake that I wanted to wear under a winter jacket or sport coat. Same quality level as my first holster. The only thing that I really do not care for is that it rides so high it is almost top heavy. But it will get a 5 inch pistol off of the seat of the car or chair.

In combination with a good belt, these holsters are really what I was looking for.
