Can I carry?

Post by Longhornfan69 »

Hi, I am pretty new to this forum and should be getting my CHL soon. My question is my family and I like to go camping and we stay at local lakes that are run by the Corps of Engineers, am I allowed to carry in these parks?

Army Corp of Engineers currently prohibits carry on land they manage.

This is correct. Federal property other than National Parks and National Forest are off limits to carry, even with a CHL.

And additionally, even under the MPA you cannot have a weapon in your vehicle on this land.

Unfortunately one of the issues we would like to see taken care of. However, there ARE state parks in Texas that are not associated with a COE lake that you can camp at and are allowed to carry. :thumbs2:

:iagree:
And if they own the land, it's illegal, even if the State or a City/County manages it.

State parks on Corps land = no carrying
State Park on land owned by the State = carry
Any River under a State River Authority such as Brazos River Authority/LCRA etc ... carry (up to the line/boundary where a USACE property begins)

No. You cannot have it on "their" land.

No. You cannot have it on "their" land.
:iagree: Nope not in the car under the MPA, Not in the "RV/your 'residence'" on their land, not in a boat under HB25/Ch 46
Nope not on "their" land, "their" water ... "their" parking lot
You can try to get permission from the commander dude viewtopic.php?f=36&t=6994&p=613113&hili ... er#p613113" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Depending on the property, you might at some properties be allowed to keep it unloaded and disassembled locked in a trunk or something, but they have their own regulations and those who tried got denied. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=36766&p=435790&hili ... my#p435790" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And let your Elected officials know.

I know Dallas area recreation seems like it's all "owned" by "them" but the rivers between the corps lakes are River Authority, not Corps property ... or drive to the highland lakes LCRA property instead of Federal Govt Property you pay to support but are not welcome to use, and carry anywhere you want on LCRA property parks/lakes/rivers/State Parks etc ... Inks Lake State Park is nice

I wonder how many ordinary Joes have been cited for illegal possession of a firearm that they were carrying in their RV while on COE property in Texas.
I also wonder how many ordinary Joes have been subject to a search of their RV while on COE property in Texas. I've camped all over the place and never come anywhere close to that happening.
