The CHL, the mall, the nephew shot in the foot. Oh My!

"A San Angelo man who police say was accidentally shot in the foot was treated and released from the hospital."
In brief, a CHL holder takes his 9mm to the mall and, while showing the pistol to his nephew, manages to shoot the nephew in the foot.

Could have been any gun even a 1911. Inept operators have no business with complex machinery.

What was the CHL thinking? Showing the gun off at a mall? If the gun had been concealed like it should have nothing would have happened. Also if he had followed the rules of gun safety even if it was discharged no one would have been hurt. The police should have charged him with failure to conceal at the least. My $0.02.

mall and, while showing the pistol to his nephew,
I'd just have to ask the guy ...
What part of "intentional failure to conceal" is hard to understand?
:banghead:

Sec. 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE HOLDER. (a) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder carries a handgun on or about the license holder's person under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, and intentionally fails to conceal the handgun.

Incidents like this make things like Campus Carry harder to pass, those anti-gun people's imaginations run wild with "what-ifs" already. :mad5

Police spokesman Lt. David Howard said Ariel Ceniceros had a permit to carry the gun.
Appropriate choice of words.

No excuse for something like this to happen. :nono:

As I have read time and again, concealed means concealed...works from a bunch of different angles. I think in this case it would be good for them to yank his CHL. That way, when some anti-firearms so-and-so wants to make a stink, its already been handled BY THE LAW. Proactive is the way to go, as painful as it may be. Certainly less painful than a shot in the foot, though. ;-)

Let's hope this did not happen in the middle of the mall. If it happened in an area that was not accessible to the general public--back stock room of a store--the failure to conceal may not be valid. Either way sounds like a real bonehead move.

When a "Professional, only one trained enough to handle a Glock" shoots himself in the leg, how's a newbie gonna handle one?

...some folks just shouldn't be carryin'...but if the weedin' out process gets too stiff, it'll be a bad thing...guess we just gotta wait till they shoot someone in the foot!!!

I still don't get it. Lots of newbies handle Glocks. Outside of my military days of handling a .38 revolver and later an M9, a Glock was my first pistol. They're no different than 90% of all the other carry guns that people have. The others have manual safeties that must be manipulated. In ALL cases, the trigger finger doesn't go on the trigger unless you are ready to shoot. So...I don't understand the Glock comment.

P.S. - If you're bashing Glocks just to troll Glock people like me, you win
